I thought we were finally leaving.

KABUL – While many Americans have been led to believe the war in Afghanistan will soon be over, a draft of a key U.S.-Afghan security deal obtained by NBC News shows the United States is prepared to maintain military outposts in Afghanistan for many years to come, and pay to support hundreds of thousands of Afghan security forces.

The wide-ranging document, still unsigned by the United States and Afghanistan, has the potential to commit thousands of American troops to Afghanistan and spend billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

The document outlines what appears to be the start of a new, open-ended military commitment in Afghanistan in the name of training and continuing to fight al-Qaeda. The war in Afghanistan doesn’t seem to be ending, but renewed under new, scaled-down U.S.-Afghan terms.....

Afghanistan did 9/11, everyone knows that. well them and iraq. we couldnt let them get away with that.

and those taliban were completely outmatched on their horses and camels, hiding in caves for gods sake. the greatest military the world has ever seen just marched in and put them out on their asses, and now female children and women arent getting shot in the fucking head for trying to go to school. the place is amazing now, a bastion of democracy.

and it only cost trillions of dollars, and we ended terrorism forever, and no innocents died in the process

go team

Surrender like in Iraq.

Oh I'm sure they will, give it a couple years

my brother just got stationed in afghanistan for the 3rd time.

Cheney and Company's plan all along. Perpetual occupation of the middle east and north africa. No surprises here.

Does America ever leave anywhere? I think last year there were discussions about building the presence in the South China Sea up again (Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines). I don't know if anything has come of that, yet.

Iraq would have made more sense, yet the US gave up all military bases there. Al Qaeda is now using them to stage Syrian operations.

Iraq. Al Qaeda is now using some of the abandoned military installations.

Maris, you just never cease to amaze me.

Obama has been president for nearly 6 years and is in full and total control of the military and what it does or does not do. He, at one point in time, had an exit strategy and now he changes his mind and decides we will stay and fight forever. And yet, you still cry 'it's all Bush's fault'.

In all honesty, I wonder if you are in a stable mental state.

I posted nothing about Bush in this thread. I wonder about your ability to comprehend basic English.

err, probably not.

Cheney = Bush administration.

So see a doctor. Please. We care for you.

You don't get it.

Cheney and Company are the ones keeping the alien autopsy results and intact flying saucers at Area 51. And they faked the moon landing, too.

Bush was just their puppet.

In Maris' mind, I'm only part wrong.

The subject of the thread is Bush, not Maris. Bush announced in late 2001 that he was starting a 20-year war. He said he didn't want Americans to expect a quick end. Britain and the U.S. had finished a 70-year cold war on Communism (after the U.S. had finished a century of killing Indians), and were looking for a new opponent. How about a billion Muslims?

Media announcers told us, "This changes everything." The U.S. then instituted the security measures developed in Israel. Within a year we were Israelified against revenge terror attacks. Once you go through 20 years of anything, it can't end. You'll see it the rest of your life.

You Republicans don't realize what asses you look like when you cry that Obama hasn't succeeded in reversing Bush's policies, which were embedded like a concrete foundation to endure a 20-year war.

"He's had nearly 6 years to reverse Bush--when will Bush's creations be Obama's fault? It follows that we should elect another Bush." (He's had 4 years, 10 months, but that's not the point. 20 years won't reverse Bush.)

"Waaah. The problem is that Maris is crazy. Yes, that's the diversionary tactic we need to get the country to forget who caused this mess and who will worsen it if returned to power."

He surrendered in Iraq and left. He can surrender in Afghanistan and leave there, too.

I think he's more interested in using drones to bomb our ally Pakistan though.

He is the commander in chief. He can do whatever he wants as far as those powers are concerned.

I don't see the point in making excuses for something you disagree with, eh?

Sorry, but you are 100% wrong.

The subject is that Obama had what I thought was a good exit strategy to get us out of a war we don't belong in. Now, there is a 100% about face and we will be sending people there to die for decades to come. I don't approve. I wanted to know what others thought about this. That was the entire subject opf my original post.

you have to understand. His followers are only concerned about what he promises, not what he does. Anything that does not follow along with a promise is to be blamed on someone else. That way his sheeple are placated

If you're talking about how to escape Bush's wars, you're talking about Bush.

Maybe he could just surrender. Then apologize. Seems to be the M.O.

Bush isn't president anymore.

If you want to play that game, it's Carter's fault. He made the middle east into the mess it is.

Carter was the only president who succeeded at negotiations. Blame Nebuchadnezzar.

He left us Iran. And Hezbolah. And the mess in Syria. And every other terrorist organization sponsored by Iran. The Iran-Iraq war. Russians invaded Afghanistan while he snoozed.

Carter created all those organizations, huh. And he, not the CIA, created the Shah and massive legal torture in Iranian law, causing the revolution and Soviet invasion next door. Yep.
