I'm sure you all have examples of thinking that YOU have the worst luck in the world, but I strongly believe that THE PFKATHCP now has you beat.
I purchased my latest car in the summer of 2008. It was a top of the line 2004 4.2L V8 Audi A6. Well it did me just fine, until recently. It just didn't make sense to hold onto it. Maintenance was starting to be more than what the car was worth. So after months of research I finally broke down and got a new car. Well, "new" to me.

I love German cars, so I went with a the 2016 3.0L Supercharged V6 Audi A7. Couldn't be more excited. Picked the car up with my daughter and was heading to her soccer practice out at the Nike campus.

Long story short, as I was changing lanes to get into the left hand turn lane on Cedar Hills BLVD and Walker Rd. when somebody from behind ran into my left front wheel and fender. Not a TON of damage, but I'd only owned the car for 30 minutes. I swear I looked around looking for cameras as if I was on some prank show! Can't remember ever feeling that sick to my stomach.

Luckily I called about 30 minutes before I went to pick it up to put insurance on it, so it looks like everything will be covered, but I have been super bummed and down ever since.

I swear this type of stuff only happens to THE PFKATHCP.

Please tell me somebody out there has worse luck than I.

About a few days later the car was gone again. And again it was abandoned in NE Portland. They also ripped out my dashboard for a second time. However, there was no reason to do that since I did not have a radio/cassette/cd system in the car. And to top it all off I had to pay fines and towing fees for a second time.

Sold the car a couple of days later.

That's f'd up! I have an Audi A6 and I love it. A friend of my daughter backed into it and broke the headlight. I said "Don't worry about it." That is, until I found out that the headlight alone - the part - was $3,000! Audis are friggin' expensive to fix.

Southwest Auto Body on Beaverton Hillsdale is great. It's sad when your body shop knows you by first name, but I digress. Greg is the owner, and they do great, honest work.

As far as the "baller" part.....I would not go that far. You know, I don't drink, don't smoke, don't gamble. Only thing I do is kinda buy a lot of shoes. So I definitely could have gotten something not so nice, but I said shit, I work hard, I deserve it.

I don't know if anyone even makes aftermarket parts for that one but I just fixed a 2015 A4 or some other little 4 door Audi and laughed at the aftermarket fender they brought.

Don't let anyone tell you aftermarket parts are just as good as OEM. Lying bastards all those who say that.

Wouldn't worry about the wheel too much. If it is really bad they'll replace it. Any legit shop will warranty their work. You'll be fine

By the way.... I've fixed brand new cars with 7 miles on them. Fixed plenty of cars with less than 500 miles on them.

Had one lady that dropped her car off at the shop and then drove her rental through a chain link fence into a drainage channel.

I doubt my luck was worse, but my first car was a Volvo 144 way back when. I owned the brand new car one week when I was going to pick up my soon to be ex wife in Nursing School at Emmanuel. I was in a lane that had the option of going straight ahead or turning left. The lane to my left could only turn left into an inside lane. So, as I turned this guy in my blind spot goes straight ahead and smacks me in the driver's door. It a middle aged gentelman smoking a pipe with his two younger teenage daughters in the car with him. I wanted to yell and scream at him but he was so nice and apologetic that what could I do? For the next 14 years that I owned the car the driver's door never worked right even after being repaired.

All that money for a car that didn't work right. In fact, it took all of my share of my father's estate plus some money grandma gave me for the car plus car payments I had to make from my new job at Tektronix where I was paid less than $2/hr.

I've got another story. My fiancee, soon to be ex wife and I heard about a great New Year's eve party. We went to it and it was full of stoner's getting wasted and sitting in this huge circle silently. I told my girl, Sue, "Let's go. This is nonsense." When we got back to my car, the same one, it had the driver's door all smashed in. I went back to the party and asked the group, which by now was more like a bunch of statues, if they knew anything about an auto accident near by. I couldn't get a response out of anyone. So I went back to my car thinking I was shit out of luck. This hippy VW van with psychedelic painting all over the outside, pulls up and this guy with hair past his shoulders leans out the window and says "Is that your car. I hit it and have been trying to find out who owns it." He probably had the same luck as me back at the party. We exchanged information and he said "I'm a student in Seattle and I have no insurance and no job. But if you'll send me an estimate I'll pay what I can. Well, hell, I figured I'd never see a dime.

I sent him an estimate and he paid it in tiny monthly installments until he paid it in full. Damn, I'd like to find him and be a character witness for him. Oh, and the door? The door finally worked okay now that it was repaired a second time. Bad luck can sometimes become good luck.

DO NOT BUY AFTERMARKET PARTS!
Also, they tend to be thinner and often don't fit as well.

In November, we had that one really stormy Saturday night with a heavy downpour. At the time, I was driving a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. I was heading back from Beaverton around midnight, and visibility was tough. I crossed the Marquam, took the off-ramp for 84 East, and as I passed under Grand, I hit a few feet of water that had pooled up due to a blocked drain. Didn't see it until I got to it. The water was up above the wheels, so I was stuck. Shorted out the electronics, but I got super lucky as a guy with a truck was next to me and had a line. He hooked me up through the hood and under my car, and dragged me over to the right shoulder a little ways up. Then I watched a few other cars do the same thing, including a poor little smart car. I was able to get the police out there, and while i waited for a tow, we helped push a few cars and block off the water.

So my search was on for a new car. I really liked the way my old car had held up (until I ruined it), so I decided to stick with Chevrolet. Even better, I looked around for a Cruze, which replaced the Cobalt. I found a 2016 edition at Dick Hannah that I thought was priced fairly and had lower mileage. Got it within a week of the accident. Boy, was I in for a surprise. Test drive went fine. Drive home went fine. Next morning, as I drove to work, it began to hesitate at idle and the engine light came on. Off to the service center. I was given a super rental car, and then the next day got mine back. Same thing happened yet again. Luckily, I was still under the exchange timeline, and I took it back and decided to explore other options.

Ended up with a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. This car has been nothing but solid so far, and I've really been enjoying it. It was kinda nice to go from a car that still had manual windows and not a lot of features to satellite radio, seat warmers, collision/blind spot detection, dual transmission, etc. It all worked out, but I went through a horrible stretch of luck in November.

A November to remember.

Sorry to hear it @hcp - that sucks - but if it is not a lot of damage - it will be fine. There used to be a body shop on route 8 in Beaverton that did fine job for me years ago - right before where the Toyota dealership was across the road (can't remember the name, sorry).

One of my first vehicles when I was a teenager was a 1951 Jeep CJ3A that I bought for cheap because the steering rack was messed up. It basically turned only right - so left turns had to be done in 3 rights. Drove it to a shop that was going to fix it for me - left it with them and was told the next day that someone broke in and stole it. It was never recovered but insurance did pay for it and later that money was used to help buy a CJ6.

Yes, the person behind is nearly always at fault. You'd have to say that the car in front was backing up for it to be the other way around.

Christmas eve...late 70s...I had just bought another 300 dollar Dodge Dart while my truck was in the shop to get to a gig...couldn't transfer the insurance on a holiday, risked it because the gig was important and drove it anyway ...sure enough going about 58 in the slow lane on I 80 west around Sacramento I look in the rear view mirror and see two long ribbons of light....drunk driver hit me in the trunk (filled with instruments) ...pushed my car like a slingshot down the road...totaled..completely..steering wheel like a pretzel in my hands..band members bleeding in the back seat...dazed I remember a highway patrolman giving me a breath test...didn't even tow the car off the road or offer assistance..drunk driver went to jail...he was clocked at 136 in the slow lane. Hired a lawyer for more than the car cost and the guy surrendered his license and I just lost the whole shebang ….Merry Xmas story of my life. Also instilled a lifelong hatred for drunk drivers. Good old steel Dodge Dart trunk probably saved our lives that night. Lost a really nice black and gold Les Paul Custom and of course...the gig
