So the divisions themselves are old news, but they've named them now. And I'm not sure everyone realizes how this is going to work, so figured I'd share:

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...es-pacific-central-atlantic-and-metropolitan/

Basically we now have 4 divisions, two in each conference. Instead of splitting them 15/15 down the middle, instead we now have 14 teams in the west and 16 in the east. Top 3 in each division qualifies, and then there are two "wild cards" per conference.

Looking at the Rangers new division, on paper, we SHOULD have a shot to make the top 3 this year. Although there are several teams that could be worse or better than last year.

Should be interesting. I do think it's a little stupid to have 2 more teams in the east than west.

The Rangers should have very good records for the next 4 to 5 years with this coach and roster. Young players are still getting better. I expect our PP to be good for once.

Our division is probably the easiest one with only PIT as someone you can confidently say is better than NY.

That's the best name they could come up with? The Metropolitan division? Christ bring back the old division names are at least come up with something no so friggin stupid.

wtf is up with the Metropolitan division..meanwhile, Detroit is in the "Atlantic Division"? they should have gone back to the old Patrick and Adams division...why they had to go and fuck around with those names is beyond me...
Bring back Patrick Adams, Norris and Smythe

Metropolitan is ok, but Atlantic for mostly Canadien teams dosen't seem to fit. Maybe like the Tim Hortons division or something.

The whole new concept with new division names, realignment, and playoff spots needs to be flushed down the toilet.

First the playoff spots, there are going to be misplaced teams come the postseason because not all of the top point getters are going to get a slot due to the divison system. Second How do you f-up the names of divison funny but the league found a way.

Third realignmnet how do 2 east coast teams end up with the rest of their divison in the midwest. ......THE NHL IS FLAT OUT DUMB, they really need to leave things alone

Your head is about the size of a pin. Nobody wants to hear your constant bitching about insignificant crap dummy. The system doesn't matter. It's basically no different. For the most part you probably will have to have one of the 8 best records to make the playoffs.

You are not a mod ...you want the best 8 with the best records not for the most part like you said and you still didnt answer how the new system would be better I forgot you need the 5 others to agree upon because you cant think for yourself......boy you smell like s h y t

don't care about the names, definitely don't care about the geography like having eastern teams in the midwest....but definitely don't like the fact that we're competing with more teams than the west is for the same amount of playoff spots. Just doesn't sit right with me, but oh well it's like that for all the teams in the east. just win and it won't matter

Prod, yours is the only legit complaint. As for the names who cares if our division is called the DICKHEADS as long as we win. And if we can't figure out a way to grab one of the 8 spots were not worthy of a playoff spot anyway.

dont look at it from a Ranger perspective look at it from a mathmatical one. The true top point getters won t be refected in this system

Only good thing is there is no automatic seed for winning a weak division.

Don't even attempt to go to math because you have no chance. Your entire theory is dumb. You are assuming that one division is going to have 4 to 5 top records while the leader in the second division would be 6th highest in the other division. Stupid. The odds of that happening are slim to none. Plus, if I'm reading this right, it wouldn't matter anyway if that fluke thing happened because the two wildcards would come from the division with a ton of teams with good records.

As usual, you are complaining just to complain. You are dreaming up some idiotic scenario. If you have been paying attention to the NHL the last 10 years, the parody is absurd. Teams are usually all within 2 to 10 points of each other.
