in other news I thought this was interesting. Another in a series of articles about how Prineville has become the home of giant data centers:

https://www.oregonlive.com/silicon-...-total-spending-there-will-top-2-billion.html

for perspective, Facebook's infrastructure, gauged in building square feet, when finished in 2023, will cover nearly 900 acres; one square mile is 640 acres. Kind of mind boggling considering where it is. That's just Facebook. Apple has a huge data center presence as well

I used to sell windows, doors, etc. around those parts. I always wanted to invest in Prineville, knowing that data centers (Facebook, Google, Apple, etc.) would continue to build there. It's that certain climate that draws these guys. Cooler temperatures = lest electricity to cool the servers, etc.

Pretty redneck community, but evolving.

I wouldn't describe it as Silicon Valley, though. There's no human innovation or invention going on in Prineville.

Google built a large data center in The Dalles several years back as that kind of opened the door for Silicone Valley companies to be looking at areas in Oregon. I'm sure the cost of realestate has something to do with it.

This is like saying that they design BMWs in South Carolina since they have a factory there.

Okay so now screen shots are too large for the server to process? @SlyPokerDog Just trying to screenshot an overhead satellite image of this from google maps.

Try breaking it down in two screen captures.

I speak english. Not mutt mumble. I only have one print screen button option. Ive never had to to that before.

Also, whats that Blazers swag thread name with all the hilarious home made stuff? Do you? Not finding it when searching various title names.

Rather than using print screen, I much prefer the snipping tool. If you're using a PC, you can find it in "windows accessories" in your start menu.

My daughter in law grew up in Prineville...her dad lives in Bend....all I can say is if this happens they're going to fuck up some of my favorite fishing spots...Les Schwab is from there and kept his main office there ...I heard they're up for sale

Use the Windows Snipping Tool instead of print screen.

No, I can't remember what the thread is called.

Very cool! I have Cortana open it. Thanks for the good find!

Dammit. I snipped it and its still giving me the error.

You Da Man!

@OR-84

This is the thread of the forum . Some images are no longer viewable, so as you scroll along, some of the earlier you cant see, but some is just hilarious.
It took me a second to realize you had tagged me in this thread while referring to the other one, lol. I appreciate you and the rest of the Blazer FAMS :)

Just trying to show perspective of how big this facebook plant is. Its the long rectangular buildings West and a little South.

Two different threads. The one I tagged you in the other thread is for legit Blazers swag. the one I tagged you in here is for comedy relief. :)

Lol, I am dense AF. My personality is dryer than a popcorn fart. :)

The comedy relief is simple humor though. Home made cell phone holders from paper bags and shit. But it looks GOOD! LOL. I'm going to have to scroll through it again this evening just for a refresher laugh.

Man...I told you I was dense, lol. I just realized the thread you were referring to was the one posted from the reply to you from @PtldPlatypus. I kept going back and reading "this thread" and looking hard for humor, although due credit some of you comedians dropped knowledge, but I was really starting to question you as a source for further comedic relief @Orion Bailey if this thread was what you were considering. Now that my Neanderthal butt has caught-up I will peruse the aforementioned thread and surely laugh soon.

HAHA, But you are doing a good job of improving the comedy in this thread! :)

I just think anyplace with Silicon Valley aspirations has to have a Dolly Parton look alike convention...

I was fishing outside Prineville in February and everytime we go through the town I notice there's a permanent rodeo setup there...I think Sisters has one as well....that means a large clown population...creepy

Yeah, but most of the clowns are brought in from LaPine due to an over abundance of them. :biglaugh:

Silicon Storage Closet, maybe. Really big closet, mind you, but still just a place to store stuff. Cheap land and cheap power are the driving forces.

If you are going to farm servers may as well be in farm country.
