NFL commissioner Roger Goodell admits they were WRONG for 'not listening' to Colin Kaepernick's protests against police brutality and that players can kneel from now on
  • The NFL have admitted they were wrong for not listening to Colin Kaepernick
  • Kaepernick 'took the knee' during national anthems before NFL games in protest
  • The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was protesting police brutality
  • It led to him being without a team after parting ways with the 49ers in 2016
  • NFL were asked to take a strong stance with the Black Lives Matter campaign
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has admitted that they were wrong in the way they handled Colin Kaepernick's protest against police brutality of black people, which ultimately led to the quarterback to be without a club.

The NFL has been locked in an ongoing debate with players over kneeling protests during the national anthem before the start of games, a practice popularised by quarterback Kaepernick in 2016 to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

Kaepernick filed a grievance against the league in 2017, claiming collusion as no teams signed him after he parted ways with the San Francisco 49ers. The NFL and Kaepernick settled in 2019.

On Friday, Goodell posted a clip to the league's official social media page in response to the 'Stronger Together' video, which asked for the NFL to take a strong stance following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

'Protests around the country are emblematic of the centuries of silence, inequality and oppression of black players, coaches, fans and staff,' said Goodell. 'I will be reaching out to players who have raised their voices and others on how we can improve.'

'We the National Football League, condemn racism and the systematic oppression of black people,' Goodell said. 'We, the National Football League, admit we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest.'

Goodell also noted how it has been a difficult time for the country, in particular black Americans, and offered his condolences to all the families that have 'endured police brutality'.

'Without black players there would be no National Football League,' he added. 'And the protests around the country are emblematic of the centuries of silence inequality and oppression of black players, coaches, fans and staff.'

Goodell claimed the league would be reaching out to players that have spoken out on the current issues.

The NFL sent the video out just hours after US president Donald Trump renewed his call for an end to kneeling protests during the national anthem.

i guess old dogs can learn after all. 4 years of rebukes and ridicule of the protest later.

So is Kaepernick coming back then

Translation: We're noticing that our bottom line is getting hurt by this so we decided to change course and retroactively apologize for being a bunch of idiots when it came to civil rights and racism. Go Redskins!

OMG I would love that.
You know what's messed up about that though.....if he DID return to a team, it would solidify the suspicions that he was not in the league all this time simply for taking a knee.

Already been solidified

It would be a more interesting theory if he didn't already suck before the controversy.

Honestly, if a team brought him back now, it would likely backfire as a publicity stunt.

If a team was smart they’d bring him back for the jersey sales

Did he really learn? Where is the admission that Kapernick got blackballed? Does he say that there will be no further prohibitions against silent protests on the field?

"Goodell never mentioned Colin Kaepernick. Ignoring Kaepernick’s role is like saying Hurricane Katrina was started by a leaky shower in New Iberia, La. Goodell said the league was wrong for not listening to the players. But he avoided apologizing to the man to whom they did listen; the man blackballed by the owners, who, in desperate need of backup quarterbacks, still ostracized him; the man who paid the price for taking on the Establishment."

So is Kaepernick coming back then

He is still only 32, which is not that old for a QB. But I would be surprised if he really wanted to at this point.
Personally I don't think he fits every offense, although he is certainly as good as most backups. But is being a back up acceptable to him at this point? He sure doesn't need the money after the NFL paid him:

https://247sports.com/nfl/san-franc...llusion-case-settlement-amount-NFL-129142821/

"That being said, there are multiple figures around the NFL that have a rough estimate of how much money Kaepernick actually received in this settlement. According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher/Report, NFL team officials are speculating that the former 49ers quarterback was paid in the range of $60 to $80 million. He continued to say that it wasn't an official figure, but all of the speculation voiced by the NFL higher-ups agreed on this range."

So the NFL is finally saying it gets what Kaepernick was trying to communicate all along. But will Corporate America get the message? They were the ones , besides you know who, who were putting pressure on the teams to correct the situation, or lose the almighty sponsorship. Because we really know it all comes down to the mean green. I hope the message IS genuine, and REAL change happens. We will see. I want to see an America that truly is the "Land of the Free".

Kapernick has no team because he sucks.
Maybe, but IMO he truly is as good as 90% of the backup QB's in the league now, and with a good coaching staff probably could develop into possibly more. But before "The awakening", teams, IMO, were afraid of the backlash from sponsors still.

Seahawks should sign ex-49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, Warren Moon says

The subject of Colin Kaepernick’s mysterious absence from the NFL over the past three seasons was reignited recently after protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis Police custody.

Since opting out of his Niners contract in 2017, Kaepernick hasn’t been signed by an NFL team.

Many teams have been thrown around as solid potential landing spots for the 32-year-old quarterback, but NFL Hall of Fame honoree Warren Moon thinks Kaepernick could join a former bitter rival.

"It's just a matter of whether he still wants to play football,” Moon told TMZ Sports. “I think the (Seattle) Seahawks’ style of play fits what he likes to do and I think it would be a good fit if he wants to play football."

Seattle did bring Kaepernick in for a conversation after he left San Francisco but the QB ultimately left without a contract offer from the Seahawks.

The organization obviously has six-time Pro Bowl selection Russell Wilson firmly in place as the starting quarterback, but Kaepernick wouldn’t be a bad insurance policy.

Kaepernick’s last NFL game came on Jan. 1, 2017 at Levi’s Stadium. It remains to be seen whether he’ll get another opportunity, although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league had “moved on” from Kaepernick in December.

Nope, like I said before anybody that DOES sign him, it will only solidify the fact that he was basically banned from the league by the good ol boys.

I'm of the opinion that NFL teams generally are averse to bringing in starting QB's that polarize a fanbase, as well as backup QB's that get major headlines. He was too controversial to be given a starting spot, and too prominent to be given a backup role.

The business explanations for not signing him made a lot more sense than the political ones.

Kaepernick just sucks as a QB. he was offered a few different backup roles and a starting role, but he declined them all. now being out of the game for 4 years, he would be worse. there is no team that will sign him strictly for him to play. all the team would want is jersey sales, cause thats all he would bring that team.

You seem a bit down on him.
