But who is this Dan Marong person and why are half the threads and stickied threads created by him? Is he with S2 or something? Sly? Denny?
 
Serious answer: a BlazersEdge guy who now has a podcast via the official radio station of the Blazers, involving the hosts of the official morning sports radio show of the Blazers, and is trying to cross-promote his podcast by integrating and interacting with the official fan forum of the Blazers.

Well, I wouldn't have quite said it like that but yeah, that's the gist.

No disrespect taken @HCP - it's an honest question considering I haven't been here/visible for all that long. The short of it is I'm a long time analyst who's been writing for a while in different places and the guys from 620AM asked if I was interested in doing a podcast with them. I wanted to share that process with the Blazers fan community, and while I've been actively engaged with a lot of the community I haven't been a part of this particular one. It's nothing more than wanting to engage another group of fans and generate some more discussion about our mutual fandom.

If you've got any questions at all- please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Obviously; half of promoting yourself is presenting yourself as a fan first and a salesman second. Insular groups like ours see through that pretty easily, though.

Now me, I was clever. I posted with many in this group for 18 years over a mailing list and three different forums before I dropped my sales pitch on them. They totally think I'm a fan!

Anyone who knows me know how much of a fan I am. And while some folks may be getting some clicks off my content at multiple sites- not that it's anyone's business- but I don't make a penny. I do this stuff because I love it, not because I want to sell it.

EDIT: To clarify - I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but a few people have insinuated I'm here to make a buck. That's unequivocally not the case.

FWIW, I don't care if you do make a buck. You're not doing it by spamming links.

We have quite a few people with links to their site in their signature.

That's the problem; we don't know YOU. You came here and started posting about your podcast. As far as I'm concerned, you're here to talk about your podcast. Cool. Whatever. I'm going to do us both a favor and ignore you until you have 2000 posts. Then we'll know you're here to talk Blazers on a Blazers forum, and not orient your entire existence here around content for your podcast.

Now I know why HCP hazed n00bs so hard.

YOU don't know me. There's plenty of people that do and I hope I get to meet all kinds of new people in the process- and by all means it's your prerogative to ignore me until the cows come home, it does me no harm or foul. Announcing your intentions on a message board on a post where an individual was asking me about my background seems like a weird place to do it, but okay, I'll roll with it.

Clearly you take issue with me for some reason, of which I have no clue, but first of all- my first couple of posts here weren't about the podcast. That literally just came up 2 weeks ago- the guys Andy/Taylor mentioned I should ask around here b/c I wasn't a member of this community. Secondly, who are you to question anyone or their motives? Have I wronged you? Do I need to pass some level of Blazer fandom to be an active participant here? I'm not doing a thing here other than trying to offer a different take, another perspective to share with people- if you want to pretend in your mind that I've got ulterior motives, go ahead throw the tinfoil hat on an ENJOOOOOOY it. The only thing I'm doing here- is the same thing I've been doing for the past 8 years on other sites and that's spending my time analyzing and writing about a team I've grown up a fan of... but hey- you do you.

Just want to make sure to clarify myself here too; my initial response in this thread was not intended to imply that you're insincere in your intentions or that you're monetizing your podcast. I was simply saying that your interactions with this board and your newly minted podcast are interconnected. I personally not only have no problem with cross-platform integration; I welcome and even initiate it.

No worries- I didn't take it as such. If at anytime the podcast or any of my content ever turned into a profit model- that content would cease to be on here until I discussed it with the appropriate people.

#1 I've been in e-commerce for the majority of my adult/civilian life- I know the rules. #2 It would be a serious shot of dishonesty to continue to push a product without the proper checks and balances in place. #3 I love doing this stuff. Always have. I came home on leave Roy's rookie year and put together a quick video for a contest they had going- it ended up winning and it became Roy's official ROY video. I've been doing stuff like that ever since- particularly when it comes to analytics b/c there's a bit of a hole there as far as Blazers coverage is concerned.

But I do appreciate the support- thank you.

Meyers doesn't really have much upside around here.
