I have a nice large sign that says no soliciting on my home.

Why do people still come to my door trying to sell me things I don't want? Is there a legal course of action to press charges against these people? I know I can make complaints with the better business bureau

I'm always nice at first, but once they start their high pressure bs, I lose it, yell at them to get the f off my property and ask them if they are blind, that I don't appreciate them selling me things when I have a no soliciting sign up. It usually leaves them saying "I'm not soliciting, I'm servicing your area."

Truth is, I would never buy shit from anyone who knocks on my door. If I wanted what you were selling, I would do my own researchand make my own contacts for the products.

They think you mean no hookers allowed?

For me, it's gotten a lot better. Years ago, there was always someone ringing the doorbell selling shit. Now months go by with nobody at all.

Now lots of people tape advertisements to my front door too. Those are annoying, but they don't piss me off as much as actual people knocking on my door

If you are bored you could probably find some entertainment by putting a beware of dog sign up right underneath the no soliciting sign, and hiding some speakers so that they are behind where someone would be when they knock on the door. Then play dog barking sounds through them when somebody is trying to sell you something.

You should answer the door with a "fuck off". They saw the sign, tell them to learn to fucking read or you'll knock them the fuck out.

Or put a video camera and a sign saying "This is being live streamed on the internet"

Door to door sales is an quickly dying art form and one of the purest forms of capitalism. It's a hard way to make a living. Just how many people are you getting to your home every week? month? Is it really that big of a problem?

They make their money by making sales. If you're polite and close the door they're going to leave. I'm not really sure what you want? And complaining to the BBB? Really? Kind of seems like you're bored and just want to fight with some on.

But if you really want an answer then try this...

Next time one of those terrible door to door sales person shows up to your house just leave the door open and wake away, if they follow you into the house, in Oregon it is legal for you to shoot them. You are allowed to defend your home. Just make sure that they are inside of your house and not still on the porch.

Happy hunting.

That's besides the point sly. I have a large no soliciting sign on my door. They should not be disturbing me at any time. I was getting ready to leave with my family, and someone knocked on my door. my family was waiting at my car for me. I was polite as can be while letting her know I was not interested. When someone goes on and on when I say no thanks, then proceeds to tell me that spiders will get into my house and kill my dogs if I don't use their service, I've had enough.

They should not be bothering me or my family.

After searching on the better business bureau website they have multiple complaints. I'm not surprised in the slightest.

And if I owned that business I would tell my salespeople that they get double commission for every house they make a sale at with a No Soliciting sign on it.

Seriously, they only make money when they make a sale. Be polite and quickly shut the door or leave. I promise you they're going move on. They're not going to make a sale standing on your porch talking to themselves.

On this day we learned that Sly is actually a door-to-door salesman. Who knew? :dunno:

Aggressive salespeople can go Fuck themselves. I clearly state I'm not interested in whatever they want to sell me with my nosolicitation sign. I'm also an accountant, and hate salesman that are slimy.

I'm super polite, always, even though I have a no soliciting sign up. Until they start telling me my dogs are going to die and that I'm a moron for not buying into their products. Even though I repeatedly told them I have a friend that does exactly what they are offering.
I hope they put a big fucking x on my house so they never come back.

Your going into way too much with them.

"Hi, are you selling something?"

"I'm not interested, have a nice day. Good bye."

Why in the hell are you telling them that you don't need what their selling because you have a friend who does it for you? Way too much information. You're listening to their spiel and then trying to reason with them? You're the one wasting their time and more importantly yours.

It was literally three minutes where I'm being nice to them and repeatedly saying no. Then I became a giant dick when they wouldn't shut up as my family was now outside at my car waiting for me.

Good news is they broke the law, plain and simple

Cool story. Just read that troutdale specifically says any solicitation on a property clearly stating no solicitation will be considered trespassing and they will be prosecuted. So I will be making that phone call on Monday.

You're really going to file a criminal complaint against them? Going to take off time from work to go to court and testify?

It's against the law for someone to solicit someone that has a no soliciting sign. So yes I'm going to tell the city about it so hopefully they shut them down from doing so anymore.

Why are you giving them 3 minutes of your time? Again, tell them you're not interested, shut the door and then walk to your car. That's 20-30 seconds. Not sure why you wasted 3 minutes of your time.

I was being polite.

Me being polite is putting up the sign. It makes it quite clear I don't want you ringing my doorbell or knocking on it for anything to do with selling me something.

Ring my doorbell at 8 o'clock and affirm to me that you saw the sign and decided to bother me anyway and I literally don't know what I am going to do to you.

The last one to do it was an old woman from some church, I just told her to get the fuck off my property. See, I can be nice.

One could argue that she wasn't technically soliciting but I would argue she should have gotten the hint anyway.

Hmm, we should all post signs that say we'll fart on anyone selling stuff. That would deter me.

I always strip fast, throw on my robe, open the door, and flash them.

always answer in underwear. tighty whities preferably, brown streak in back always encouraged.

even when i went to church regularly i discouraged the marketing gimmick of door to door jesus sales. leave people alone, they know where church is. If i want a vacuum, i know where to go.

I use to door knock so I feel some empathy for them. Lots of these guys are living hard lives, they have no skills and have been conned into a shitty commission only sales job with a pyramid type scheme, and they are working 12+ hours a day for what amounts to pennies on a bad day. So generally my attitude with them is stop the hype sales bullshit, tell me what you've got and Ill tell you if I want it. If they cant get out of their pitch mode in about 15 seconds to tell me their product then I shut the door in their face, because they are wasting my time and theirs. Their job is a complete numbers game, 1 in 10 is a sale so the good ones take a no and move to the next house, the bad ones get caught up on a no and keep trying to push the sale because they havent sold shit all day and are stressed about it. So wasting their time, pretending you might be interested because you are to polite to just say no, is te worse thing you can do for everybody involved.

I rarely buy things from them because if I don't already want it then Im probably not going to spend money on it, but I have bought a few things.

As a door knocker I have some great stories, I did it for almost 2 years. I caught people fucking, had offers for sex, had people open the door naked (on purpose), my buddy caught a guy fucking a rubber doll. Got chased by all sorts of dogs. People love getting the delievery/sales guy stoned also. For a 18 year old kid it was actually a great time, except for the money part, and on a good day you can actually earn some good cash.

Tip: do not be excessively rude to these people, most of them are young and in your neighborhood all day and evening. We use to take extreme joy in coming back to extreme assholes houses' after dark to shit in their mailbox or whatever else we felt like they deserved.

I tell them "if the next words out if your mouth aren't the price, I'm shutting the door."

Love the look on their face.

I hate door to door sales people also. I always just say "no thanks" before they start their sales pitch and most of the time they walk away. If they dont, I say "I dont buy from solicitors, so dont waste your time trying to sell me stuff I dont want".

Don't know what local law is, but I got REALLY pissed by all the competing pizza places in town putting their stuff on my door handle. Every damn day I had to chase flying papers in my garden. (Gardeners get really pissed about trash in our creations.) I tried calling the places, got no help, put up "No soliciation, absolutely no pizza ad", no help, they told me the people putting up signs were mostly Spanish speaking so I put up signs in Spanish, put tape over doorknob, still got signs. Needless to say I never went to any of the crappy pizza places.

When I checked I found out that a no solicitation sign carries no legal weight, and that the path to a door is considered public access even if on private property. So no legal outlet.

I get solicitations from the Mormons. They had the gall to come to my door the day after Prop H8 passed, due largely to the millions of dollars from their church. I let them know in my best Sproul Plaza Rally voice NO GAY HATERS IN THIS HOME!!!

I did have 2 gay male friends who say the Jehovah's Witnesses coming up the path. They quickly stripped off their clothes, answered the door stark naked with their arms around each other and said can we help you? The Witnesses did not want to witness that and split.

I haven't had many sales folk at my door in the past few years, and when they come I say "no thanks" and shut the door the second I figure out their purpose.

However, I do get religious people proselytizing fairly often. For them, I interrupt and show them my mezuzah (Hebrew scripture) hanging on my door frame like most Jews have. Then I explain the mezuzah and that every time they encounter one, they should skip that house. I'm never rude about it, I just try to be informative. Then I shut the door and return to my life.

And yes, I still have a mezuzah even though I don't believe. Mine was given to me by my grandmother and it makes me feel connected to my Jewish community even if I don't buy the jive.

I was polite, but said I was not interested multiple times. That I know someone that offers their Product if I wanted it too. The fact she tried to tell me that my dogs would die from a certain spider if I didn't use their Product is ridiculous. and the fact that my family was waiting for me at my car and she blindly ignored that was outrageous.

Point blank I had to be a dick to get her to leave me alone. which honestly is not that hard for me to do, my job can be very confrontational at times so I'm used to it.

Did you make it a habit of going to doors with no soliciting signs?
