America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles of justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.
Barack Obama

Americans... still believe in an America where anything's possible - they just don't think their leaders do.
Barack Obama

As a nuclear power - as the only nuclear power to have used a nuclear weapon - the United States has a moral responsibility to act.
Barack Obama

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.
Barack Obama

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.
Barack Obama

I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.
Barack Obama

I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war.
Barack Obama

I don't take a dime of their [lobbyist] money, and when I am president, they won't find a job in my White House.
Barack Obama

I know my country has not perfected itself. At times, we've struggled to keep the promise of liberty and equality for all of our people. We've made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions.
Barack Obama

I opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. It should be repealed and I will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying.
Barack Husein Obama (Mmm, Mmm, Mmm)

One thing I do like about Obama is that he speaks very clearly and eloquently. He may not always back up what he says, but he is a very effective communicator.

I enjoy that too. It may not determine how smart they really are or if they are making good choices, but I'm glad the leader of our country is well spoken and can effectively communicate.

Granted, the guy even brings a teleprompter to a press conference, but that's beside the point. I do admit that the man reads words written by someone else very well. President Barack Burgundy. My personal favorite was when he thanked himself when the Irish PMs script was on screen instead of his.

Even from your perspective, you must admit it is nice to have a president who can read well.

What other religions have a mandatory "convert or kill" policy?

Mandatory convert or kill policy? Seriously? Do you research things at all, or do you just take what someone tells you as the honest truth, and run with it in discussions. You honestly believe that is the policy of Islam?

Rush Limbaugh is a racist? Seriously? Do you research things at all, or do you just take what someone tells you as the honest truth, and run with it in discussions. You honestly believe that is the policy of Rush Limbaugh?

So, really, nothing to add to it? Meh, when in doubt, change the subject.

5:33 The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement...

I see the phrase "Strive to make mischief" as sort of the Interstate Commerce clause of the Koran. It's vague enough so that those who wish can define it however suits them best.

And it suits you to define it as convert or be killed? Why does that suit you?

So a small few who might misinterpret their holy book represent the entire religion and are thus a violent group as a whole? Makes sense.

Small few? Now you have to be kidding. While I know it isn't anywhere close to a majority, I am very comfortable with my guess that the radical Islamists who believe that the Koran mandates murder number in the tens of millions.

Oh my, look at these violent Christians. They tell you to kill someone who speaks out against their god! What a violent and terrible group.

Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

They don't even get to the converting portion yet. You talk bad about their god, you die. Very tolerant, indeed.

What was that you said about changing the subject again?

And have you ever heard of the New Testament? Hate the sin, not the sinner? Love thy neighbor?

I didn't change the subject. I said they were hardly less tolerant than other religions. In that regards, what I posted was entirely on subject.

Seems like there is still, by my guess, tens of millions who like to cite the old testament when it suits them, or follow its practices. And interpret it in ways it most likely was not intended. Although, not sure how you can misinterpret stoning to death.
But you're right, they are much more tolerant. I mean, there is tolerance of homosexuals, right? And their right to marry? I'm always seeing religious groups supporting them, being tolerant of them. Or, does tolerance only come into play in some regards, and not others? Like some examples of intoleance are acceptable? Where does the line fall?

But Jewish people don't follow the New Testament. Nor do a host of other religions.

Sooooo.....

Be that is it may, he is probably one of the 5 best Presidents with respect to connecting with people and communicating complex issues in a simple way.
