"If Stotts can’t 'pull a rabbit out of his hat' with a playoff miracle of sorts, as one source put it, the Blazers are expected to opt for a new coaching voice," Charania wrote. "And the Damian Lillard timeline, it seems, is playing a big part here."

Los Angeles Lakers assistant Jason Kidd, Atlanta Hawks interim coach Nate McMillan and Los Angeles Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups are among the names Portland might look toward to replace Stotts.

as an honest stotts fan, tears can’t express how much i respect Terry Stotts and his amazing coaching here in Portland. We have one of the greatest offensive ratings in nba history because of that man. if he ever left Portland i’ll stop being a fan on that day. don’t fire him.

Nah i'm kidding get him out

I trust you guys' random coach candidates speculation more than I trust that guy's random speculation.

Bleacher report. LOL

...to be fair, the B/R article is just pulling from the original article by Shams on The Athletic (who is a very reputable source in NBA circles) :dunno:

Your thoughts definitely need a separate thread.

If we bring in Kidd or McMillan I'm going to be PISSED.

It's Bleacher Report but both Sam Amick and Shams Charania had it before that and BR is just picking it up.

Don't worry, it won't be Kidd or McMullan.

When people say Fire Stotts, they have to be careful what they wish for.

The only thing that'd make it worse is if we hired Kidd.

Other than that, get stotts out of here. He's done nothing memorable in his 9 years here as the coach. Just rode the coattails of Dames heroics.

IMO, Stotts deserves to be fired because any coach on a non-tanking team with a bottom-3 defense two consecutive years regardless of personnel should be an automatic firing.

The competency of the next hire is a separate topic that will then fall on whoever made that decision whether that is Olshey or someone new is brought in.

Here are the coaches who have had one or more bottom-3 defense in the last few years:

Terry Stotts (twice)

Scott Brooks (twice)

John Beilein

Luke Walton (twice one with Kings one with Lakers)

Ryan Saunders

Ty Lue (6 games), Larry Drew Interim (Lue the year before as well)

Igor Kokoskov

Earl Watson (3 games), Jay Triano Interim (Watson the year before as well)

Fred Hoiberg

Now is Stotts an outlier that should be given a pass for a pathetic coaching job equivalent to these scrub coaches or is he possibly the problem?
