A construction worker found a knife buried on the perimeter of the former O.J. Simpson estate ... and it's currently being tested by the LAPD in a top secret investigation ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
The story is incredible. We're told a construction worker found the knife years ago -- we have heard several different stories, ranging from "several years ago" to 1998, when the house was demolished.

The weapon is a folding buck knife.

Our law enforcement sources say the construction worker took the knife to the street, where he saw an LAPD cop. He told the officer where he found the knife and the cop took it.

Turns out the cop -- who worked in the traffic division -- was off duty at the time, working security for a movie shoot at a house across the street on Rockingham. Our sources say the officer took the knife home and kept it ... kept it for years.

In late January of this year, after the cop retired from the LAPD, he contacted a friend who worked in LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division (RHD). The cop told the friend about the knife and said he was getting it framed to put on his wall. He wanted his friend to get the DR (Departmental Record) number for the Nicole Brown Simpson/Ronald Goldman murder case, which he planned on engraving in the frame.

We're told the friend was indignant, and told his superiors. The brass was outraged and demanded that the retired cop turn the knife over, which he did.

Our sources say the knife is currently being tested for hair and fingerprints. It will be moved to the Serology Unit next week, where it will be tested for DNA and other biological evidence.

One source familiar with the investigation tells us, cops who eyeballed the knife think it could have blood residue on it, but it's hard to know without testing because it's extremely rusted and stained.

The investigation is top secret. It's been logged into the LAPD's computer system outside the official case file to maintain security. Our sources say, since O.J. was found not guilty, it's still an open case. That means cops can continue investigating, but O.J. cannot be prosecuted again -- double jeopardy.

This could never be legitimate evidence at this point so...huh?

The LAPD keep covering themselves in glory regarding this case, wow.

He can't be retried, so it's really irrelevant as evidence for that case. Really it just makes the LAPD look bad.

Pretty insane timing given the mini-series...

If anything this backs up the defense argument about the supposed racist LAPD conspiracy.

This proves they were more incompetent than racist. If the knife was planted there by the cops they would have went back and dug it up. It's amazing that they didn't scour every inch of his property with metal detectors.

Also wasn't OJ a spokesman for some knife company at the time of the murder?

I always figured Kardashian hauled the knife out of there.

Mr. Kardashian was also an important figure in the case because he was seen carrying away a garment bag from Mr. Simpson's Rockingham Avenue home the day after the double killing. In the criminal case, he asserted attorney-client privilege and was never called to testify.

I don't understand why this is some huge breaking story.

A) He can't be retried for a crime that he was already exonerated from.

2) Basically everyone in the known world thinks he did it, so why would any evidence at this point make a bit of difference?

3) The dude is in prison anyway.

I hope that at least that cop loses his pension. What a dick, no pun intended.

Knife linked to former O.J. Simpson property is not connected to homicide case, LAPD concludes

The knife reportedly found at the former home of O.J. Simpson is not connected to the 1994 slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Los Angeles police confirmed Friday.
The Los Angeles Police Department performed a variety of forensic tests on the rusty 5-inch fixed blade knife and compared it with the wounds inflicted on the victims before ruling it out as the murder weapon, two sources familiar with the investigation said.

“That is not the knife,” said an LAPD source familiar with the investigation. “There is no evidence related to the crime.” The source said there was no blood on it.

The examination of the knife came more than two decades after the former football player turned actor and announcer was tried in one of the highest-profile murder cases and acquitted by a jury. A civil trial, however, held Simpson liable for the two deaths and ordered him to pay $33 million.

The small size of the blade was among many issues undermining its potential as the murder weapon. During the criminal trial, the Los Angeles County coroner testified the weapon that killed the pair had at least a 6 1/2 -inch blade, in his opinion. The murder weapon used in the June 12, 1994, slayings was never found.

So, the question remains - who was it then, that Hillary killed with this knife?
