...just saw a thing on TV noting that today is the 45th anniversary of Apollo 11's historic moon walk. They were comparing the amount of memory in that rockets guidance system. (36 kilobytes)

...in contrast, today's Apple iPhone 5S has 64 Million kilobytes.

...that comes to 1,800,000 times more memory in a smartphone than Apollo 11's guidance system. In 1969, that technology was cutting edge and was a marvel of engineering.

Can't believe its been 45 years already. DAMN! life goes by way to fast. Where's a time machine when you want one?

Excellent Point, and Post.....most people today do not know as much....but should...!

During a Northrop B2 Program-Admin. Briefing, the CEO of Northrop held his arm up pointed to his Rolex watch, (with a TV, radio, & few other abnormal features), and said, this watch has more computer memory than the Apollo's Modules.....! Great stuff....incredible advancements.....

I recall where I was when Apollo 11 landed, listening to the radio going cross country in a 24 foot 1963 Pontiac Catalina Station Wagon, (Family Truckster), we pulled into a Diner in Tucumcari, NM. to have lunch and watch the landing in a jam packed crowd, standing room only....

I believe most people who were of age back then, recall where they were when Apollo Landed, as much as they knew where they were when JFK was shot, or RFK.

As incredible a feat was-Jules Verne's Sci-Fi novel and research in 1865: "From Earth to the Moon", his calculations were spot on, enough NASA homework was pretty much already done for them. All NASA had to do, was verify the Math of Verne's was not surprisingly accurate to a gnats ass, right down to the location for a Moon Launch, Vehicle Weight, Amount of necessary rocket thrust, the speed the vehicle had to travel, the trajectory for re-entry, right down to the minute within seconds of time it would take to arrive at the moon.

Verne's work was scoffed as voodo math and sci-fi. Jules genius mind, was actually a century ahead of his time.

For 38 years, the County Park, just a mile south across the desert, housed an Apollo Command Module, enclosed in a plexi-glass gazebo. The Park was built and named Apollo Park, with the exhibit integral to a visit. 6 years ago, the Smithsonian (owners of the Module), agreed to rip it out of our local grasp, and send it to Downey, CA. to a new Space Museum. The nerve of them, and they never asked my permission either....!!!

You mean you haven't taken a dip in the Fountain of Youth.....Rick....?

Ponce de Leon may of not of found it, but I did. Tote told me where it was. Turns out to be a spring in Tijuana, converted into a recyclable sewage water plant....! I'm not taking the plunge, but Tote did, and by damned he looks 100 years old, than he did prior, at 45 yrs of age. Say's he no longer needs Cialis/Viagra either....!

What's 45 years, when you've been around since the first square wheel was invented, or was that the rickshaw.....tell me Rick, where did you hide Atlantis....? I know you were born there....! Or did you land in the Andes Mts. and create the Inca Civilization single handed, but what was the host child carrier, you pro-created????
