And you wonder why people assume you are a rabid right-winger? It's because you post shit like this.

Interesting article. Basically it says he won the presidency simply because he was black, because he really had no qualifications otherwise. I’m not agreeing nor disagreeing with this premise. However I have often wondered if a couple of other factors were not huge in his favor. First one being that his run followed the Bush era. Which left a lot of people, ummm, unhappy I guess. Combine that with the fact that the republican candidate was John McCain and I think this is really what landed Obama in the white house. It’s just my own theory and I barely follow politics.
I think race was a small issue, but it was more that the "hope and change" message resonated with many who didn't want any Republican (for fear of continuance of Bush policies), and that Obama didn't have any skeletons to harp on except for inexperience.
>80% of people who identify with "black" as their race vote D every single election. Yeah, they voted 95-4 for Obama, but they voted 90-9 for Gore in 2000, 88-11 for Kerry in 2004, 84-12-4 for Clinton in 96, 83-10-7 for Clinton in 92, 89-11 for Dukakis in 88, 91-9 for Mondale (for goodness' sakes!), 83-14 for Carter in 80, 83-17 for Carter in 76. You might be able to say that more black voters turned out (from 10% in the 1996-2004 elections to 13% in 2008), but imho it wasn't b/c of the black vote that he won. It'll probably be that the black vote is ~90-95% for D no matter how bad his policies are, if he had an affair, if he cured cancer, if he dropped a nuke on someone. IMO, it's the low-income earners he appealed to, and how he was elected. 18% of the electorate was from people making <30k/yr, and Obama carried 67% of them.
So you're saying that only on the D side, the racists/affirmative action folks won out to allow Obama to beat Hillary in the primaries? B/c if Hillary would've won the nomination she'd probably be president today. At least, the black vote would've been ~90-10.

I also think race is why the Dems can't run a primary challenger against him, either, like they did with Ted Kennedy against the more competent (by comparison) Jimmy Carter in 1980.

I think you're overlooking the more important issue of the Dem primaries, and how Obama was able to defeat Clinton.
Whoa! What slithered into your panties this morning? I just thought it was interesting. I still do. No apologies. BTW, take your meds.
. You posted, within the last 24 hours, that people were making incorrect assumptions about your politics. I was explaining why: you post rabid right-wing rants like this one, but you never ever post rabid left-wing rants. It's no surprise that people assume that you agree with what you post.I think you misinterpreted the tone of my comment. I'm not bent out of shape, just trying to be helpful.
