I have been very interested in this group and what they really stand for. Here is their website: http://occupywallst.org/

Some quotes:

Over these thirteen days, we have learned that no one supports corporations’ disproportionate influence in the political sphere. We have learned that no one is in favor of evicting struggling families to the street while banks continue to profit. No one, that is, except the corporations and banks.

I wonder how they feel unions and their "disproportionate influence in the political sphere" and seeing millions of jobs lost and the ramifications that come with that over union practices. Just curious.

this site was brought to you by various radicals

If one thinks about it, this country was started by radicals.

I'd love to go and talk to some oft he protesters. If this starts up in Portland, I will definitely do that. Who knows, maybe I'll join them!

Since that's not reality and has never happened in our lifetime, does it matter what anyone thinks?

You remind me of the 'boy who lived in a bubble'. Seriously, you seem to live in some sort of fantasy world where there is no reality whatsoever.

You realize he lives in Lapine, right? Therefore, you are correct.

Why not argue that The Earth is flat?

Union membership and influence is lower now than at any time since before I was born.

Not surprisingly, the Average American is paid less for his efforts now than at any time since before I was born.

A capitalistic society cannot possibly survive without worker representation.

What we have is the left's answer to the Tea Party. It's unorganized, unsophisticated, it does not have leaders, representatives or power structure, just many people loosely affiliated under an umbrella of anti-corruption and democracy.

The grassroots nature of that movement, the lack of specific persons who represent it, makes it a target for hysterical slander attacks by regressives via their http-capable minions.

I think nothing substantial will come of this event. They are asking for a presidential commission to separate money from politics. Maybe they will get that but it will just be a dog and pony show. However, I'm happy to see another political movement take place outside of the two major political parties. I hope it leads to bigger things without being co-opted.

Holy shit... I'm on board. Where is my bumper sticker?

We are citizens of the United States, and this country is ours. We will take it back.

It is no longer enough to vote and to participate in the political system because our political system has been altered drastically from its intended and proper function. Currently, we are allowed to pick from a few candidates whose campaigns are funded more and more by large organizations, corporations, and special interests.

Occupy Portland is a nonviolent movement for accountability in the United States government. At 12PM on October 6th, 2011 we will assemble at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, 1020 Southwest Naito Parkway in Portland, OR.

We will gather in solidarity with the ongoing protest in New York City, Occupy Wall Street, and the growing number of cities whose people will no longer sit back watching corporate and special interests run their government. We are citizens of the United States, and this country is ours. We will take it back.

Very well stated.

I guess what rubs me the wrong way is that they seem to assume they are the 99% majority and in actuality it's more like 15%. So starting with a lie makes me shake my head. But I do hope to go down and talk to some of them.

So you are saying that 85% of people are corrupt and greedy? Or that 84% will tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%?

The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%.

I believe the reference is the 1% who undeservedly control the country's wealth and the 99% they stole it from.

Yeah that's how I understood it. I'm digging their message. Honestly I hope they get some more organization otherwise they'll end up like the tea party. No organization so the crazies come in and ruin the message.

They're protesting because they are Real Americans.

no they're not. they're complaining for the sake of complaining. they are attention whore losers. they'll still vote for Obama even if he continues to suck wall street's cock.

if they block a street I hope they get run the fuck over.

And you are complaining for the sake of, what, exactly?

these protests never do anything at all. they want to do something, they want real change, they have to start violent revolution. burn shit down. attack people. whatever it takes.

I wish them luck. I can't understand how any American who isn't making more thank $300k doesn't.

They're just like the tea party, but not co-opted by the Koches or the Fox news network. Enraged at how we can spend so much money on bailouts for bankers, without any regard for the average joe.

It's unfocused rage, yes. But I hope it won't always be. The alternative is much more bleak.

Hey man, I can score some heat-seeking missiles and my friend can get you some ignition cables. Are you up to set them off downtown? You'll learn what to do at the training in the Middle East my organization will pay for. I'll drive you around and keep talking you into it when you try to squirm out of it.

5 minutes before you set them off, can you meet me in front of the FBI building downtown? It'll save me time.

I'm just saying what needs to be effective to enact change. These protests will not do a damned thing. I've stated that the system needed to fail, or else we will continue the bad practices that took us there in the first place.

This protest will just be lip service, nothing more. In a few months they'll move on to something new. or you know, find work. but probably not.

You're right. For example, polls say over 50% of Americans have always opposed the 2 wars. If our government refuses to represent the majority, why do we fight wars against non-democracies? Because there are ulterior motives, like, Saddam must have insulted the Bush family in the 80s. A new non-democracy is installed to replace the old one.
