You could set it at 5 and I'd go over. Name me the 2 other C's in the WC that are going to be consistently beating him out in the next 5 years -- well, one, since China will vote Yao in nmw. I'll wait.
Even if you want to bring Bynum into the equation (and I don't, yet, but acknowledge he might get there if he can stay healthy)--who else are we talking about? Let's go down the list. Kaman? Biedrins? Robin Lopez? Okur? Hawes? Nene (maybe)? Love? Thabeet (if he goes to the OKC)? Whoever the Spurs parade out there? Dampier? Chandler?

Over and I mean way over. If Oden plays 10-15 years in the league he will get way more then 2.5 all star games. Book it!

Over. Bill Simmons is a moron.

I mean, he SAW ODEN WALK once, so I know he's confident that Oden's never going to amount to anything, but other than that I don't think Simmons's opinion is based in reality.

Al Jefferson and Andrew Bynum have shown enough to think they'll be in All-Star games. Yao Ming for the foreseeable future. Gasol is essentially a center still as well.

It matters more where the NBA places the players than what they really are. Duncan has been the tallest player for SA for a while, yet he's a "PF" because once upon a time he played along side The Admiral? Yet every year Duncan makes the starting lineup as a Forward.

Who knows how other young players, like a Spencer Hawes or DeAndre Jordan will develop. Will Tyson Chandler return to his form from last year?

However, I think you're talking about a group of 3-4 players who seem to be in the All-Star hunt. Given injuries, especially to big men, you can expect that someone might get hurt.

So yeah, I'll take the over on 2.5 All Star Games for Oden. Even if he only plays for like 10 years. In the modern era getting something like 15/10 is pretty much good enough to warrant an all-star selection from the position (not to mention if he develops into the defender/shot blocker we expect).

Over as in Bill Simmons wit.

I will say it right now, Oden gets 4 to 5 All Star games before his career is over

Under, for 2 reasons.

First, defense isn't highly valued at all-star games. Second, I am afraid that even if Oden reaches his potential, his "peak" will be relatively short because of all the injury issues. Even if he achieves 100% recovery from the MF surgery, no one knows how long it will hold. We are plowing new medical ground here with young big men like Oden and Amare. All we know is that short-term success is possible. There is no data to tell us what will happen long-term.

Don't care how many he makes. If he averages 12 pts 10 boards and 2 blocks he probably never makes the AS game. But if he puts those numbers up and anchors our defense for the next decade as we compete/win multiple championships I am fine with going with the under.

Injuries are the only possible factor that might keep Oden from over easily.

Way over. Bill Simmons bases his opinion of Greg Oden's future on his first postseason? How was Kobe's first post season?

Over - way over.

Defense may not be valued by the fans who vote for the starters, but defense and rebounding are highly valued by the coaches who select the reserves. Otherwise how do you explain Ben Wallace being a 4 time all-star in spite of never averaging double digits in scoring?

Players are also rewarded for team success. The Blazers are poised to be one of the top teams in the league for the next 10+ years. Oden will be seen as a big part of that and it will help him get additional all-star appearances.

Why are you mixing in all of these power forwards?

At least three times over. And his first one will be in February, 2010.

Those are power forwards.. assuming Bynum stays healthy and starts at center for LA so Gasol stays at PF. Shaq will be done in a year or two.. and Duncan will be done in a few years too. Oden has a lot of years ahead of him. Al Jefferson is actually a natural PF too but it doesnt seem like Minnesota is ever gonna bring in a true center so yes he counts as a center. Yao could make the team if he didn't play a single game with everyone in China voting for him.

Under. Unless he has a major improvement in footwork, I don't see him scoring enough to make it to a lot of AS games.

Let's assume Yao's a lock for the foreseeable future at C, other than Bynum, what competition does Oden really have at this point at C? Chris Kaman? I say over, but it don't really matter. I think we all kind of chuckled when Jermaine O'Neal (who was getting no burn really at the time) proclaimed that he was definitely going to make an AS team. He has made 6 AS games!! You can't tell me that Oden's future doesn't look a whole lot brighter than Jermaine's did at this stage in their careers. And.. Oden is a legitimate C. So, if I had to make a bet and my house was on the line I take the over, and I don't really sweat it.
