I'd say Malhotra or the best dman at that point.

NHL is a complete joke. San Jose should be nowhere near top 5. It’s an absolute joke. They’re already loaded with elite young talent. Fuck them

Somewhere the 20 man Rangers scouting team is coming up with the worst possible options for Drury, hopefully he'll ignore their suggestions to select undersized players with big hearts and continue picking 21st century NHL sized prospects.

Their first break in a while?! Is your memory really that short? They leapfrogged at least 5 teams in both 2019 and 2020 to draft 2nd (!) and 1st overall (!!). If that happened to any other team some people here would complain about the draft being fixed for the next 25 years.
Yup, same page, they didn't get their first break in a while, we agree 6 and 7 years ago is a while. Unfortunately, it didn't work out, and we fell to 5th. We should still get a good player, a top 4 dman or a 2nd line forward I'd expect (I think a top 4 dman picking 5th and looking at the draft rankings).

This is not an OV, Crosby, MacKinnon, Matthews, Celebrini, McDavid type draft, McKenna is none of those guys. You rather pick 1 or 2 to get McKenna and Stenberg, but the guy we'll get at 5 is still going to be a very good player, and I'm not sure either of the top two will be bigtime studs, and neither will be superstar generational players.

The Rangers would have been better off with the 5th pick when they drafted Laf, 8 players in that same first round now with better numbers than Alexi, hopefully next year he'll pick it up.

Means nothing as you saw it late in the year when Lafreniere got power play time he was averaging a point per game

I think we can all agree that if the player they would have drafted at 5 instead of Laf at 1 was handled the same way the Rangers handled Laf they would be as big of a disappointment up to this point in their career as well.

Lol I seriously doubt that Grevy. Alexi was given a chance from day 1 but is a lazy dog when it comes to work ethic and effort on the ice. The guy was compared to Sydney Crosby and somehow the Rangers coaches sucked that talent out of him? Quinn and GG both commented on his conditioning and the sting of their accurate criticism sapped poor Alexi's will to try? He's been in the lineup almost every game the last 4 years getting 17+ minutes per game but still puts out inconsistent effort, PP or not 57 points isn't what I expected.

I would agree Panzer. Lafreniere was not a generational talent coming into the draft, not a McDavid or MacKinnon type, but he was supposed to be better than this. I do think a lot of it is between the ears/laziness as you allude to.

I am hopeful he can put together a full season of top play next season, maybe get to 70 points, and be a lot closer to the guy we hoped he would be. I firmly believe he has it in him, but he has to put the work in this summer to reach his potential. We'll see.

Let’s face it the Rangers fucked up Lafreniere by never putting him on the first power-play unit same with Kakko. When Lexi got on the first power-play unit, I believe he had 24 points in his last 23 games because they didn’t develop him like a fucking role player. Kakko I think it was a little bit soft for his size. We’re going to have an excellent defenseman prospect on the left side in this draft that can also play the power-play available to us. That’s a huge need for us going forward.

I have finally come around on that line of thinking as well that he shouldve been on the first PP from day one. He was given opportunities over time (and didnt take advantage of it, sure) but he never really had success outside of a few stretches with Kakko/Chytil. The next season is going to be what determines his direction with the team.

And we also moved him to the off wing.

We are retards when it comes to developing young forwards.

Kakko has also gone and been a solid 2-way forward for Seattle playing at a 50-point pace and had the best +\- on the team. Not 2nd overall pick performance but very solid player to have.

What happens when you stop trying to fucking develop the first overall draft like a role player.

Either way, we are going to get something our prospect pool badly needs. A center prospect or a left handed defenseman. Both with elite skill sets. The bigger question is do we hit on the second round pick later. I would target a safe, two way, 3rd line center type with size, speed and some faceoff skill.

Edmonton should fire their dumb fuck general manager for never getting a real goalie. If Quinn Hughes doesn’t want to resign with Minnesota, which I’m hearing then the Rangers should investigate a trade similar to this. Hughes, Stramel and a 1st for Fox and Trochek. That is a deal I would include Trochek in. Otherwise keep him. Hughes is a upgrade to Fox. He’s also a left-handed defenseman.
