I bought a laptop back in 01, for college, and about 5+ years ago, it bought the farm. I never got rid of it (I think I have something on it I wanted to keep, but don't remember). Since the 3rd laptop I've bought (since then) needed a new HD, I bought one of those cloning transfer kits.

So I thought I would try to transfer the info off the old HD to my new HD, and then take apart the old HD because I'm a dork that way.

Anyway, the connector on the old HD was totally different than the cloning plug.

Anyone know if they make adapters for those things?

It may take 2-3 days to copy a decent sized drive over USB 2.

I got one of these kits and it never recognized the drive.

It's entirely possible I could face the same fate. A friend of mine actually has the kit I'd need, and he said I could borrow it.

It's been so long since I used this computer (it just crapped out one day while I was at work), I don't even remember what is on it.

Email the NSA and ask them what was on your old HD. I'm sure they have a complete copy of it.
