Fellow blazer fans,

Over the past few weeks I have seen some real hostility towards each other. It seems like we've all been at each others throats. It's been a rough preseason. We've had some controversy. There have been a lot of heated debates.

Nate: Bad coach vs Good coach
PG: Miller vs Blake
Batum: Whose fault?

I've just noticed a lot of anger, frustration, and borderline name calling. I've only edited a handful of posts since I've become a mod, but this is all very concerning to me.

It seems like the trend right now is to crucify anyone who has a negative opinion about anything related to the team. I think that's sad. There has to be two sides to a debate or it's just everyone walking around glad handing, slapping each other on the back, and puffin sunshine.

So my humble request to everyone is that they take a deep breath, chill out a bit, and enjoy the season. I think it's going to be a good one!

Go Blazers!

Sounds like someone has been listening to too much talk radio. A debate is useless. You have to HATE anyone who disagrees with you.

No!

We are the Judean People's Front. They are the People's Front of Judea.

Splitters!

Yeah, give me one of those baseball bat sized branches from a Russian Olive. There's a couple of ass clowns I'd like to offer that to.

I enjoy a good debate.. and negativity is fine. I think the bitching is what annoys me the most. But I have tried to make sure I am civil with responding to it, and not name calling.

nice...

I refuse to extend an olive branch until someone pays me to accept the olive branch. I'd also like the olive grower subsidized.

And under MM's rules, I'd like all parties to run more and move faster.

haha, nice

I'm allergic to olives, and here you are waving a big branch of them at me. Really nice. Screw you buddy!

Frankly, I think this is a bit off base. If anything, I think it's the borderline-baiting negative posts that have been causing a lot of the grief around here.

I have no problem with people expressing negative opinions about certain players, the coach, or KP. What I do find objectionable is when the negativity isn't really being expressed as a reasoned opinion, but just becomes a constant, aggravating whinefest. If you don't think Nate is using his players correctly, say why you think that. Don't just jump into every single thread with a snarky comment about Nate sucking. If a player goes down with an injury and you think that KP and the medical staff should have reacted to it earlier, fine, say that, but back it up with some reasoning. It's the drama queen posts overreacting to every single negative event that are getting really old.

It seems to me that there are more of these posts here than ever before. Maybe too much influx from OregonLive?

With all of that said, yeah, I'm in favor of toning down the nastiness around here. We're all Blazers fans and we all ultimately want the best for the team. We may have differing opinions about what it takes to deliver that best, but we should be able to express our opinions respectfully.

110% AGREE

I think for some, it's difficult to disagree without all the venom. That's just a lil ridiculous.

Be kind, says the guy with the Ban Hammer.

Yes sir. (don't take this as condescending or sarcasm please, I'm sincere) :)

You haven't visited the OT forum much, have you?

I don't mind the whiners as much as the people who just tend to "imply" or subtly make personal digs at other people. The "perhaps I should get you a hooked on phonics book so you can understand my post." There's really no need for that, unless it's for the poster to stroke their fragile ego.

As a person who came here from Oregonlive (via invitation from ABM) I don't think the problem lies with any of us. Most of the peeps who came here from O-live are pretty hardcore Blazer fans and love to drink the Blazer kool-aid. :pimp:

The OT forum is a different world from the main board. Those who tread into discussions regarding politics and religion had better have pretty thick skins. That's why I tend to avoid posting there much, I guess, what with my delicate skin and all. ;)

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to keep myself from checking the thing out from time to time. Kind of like having to rubberneck at the roadside crash scene.

Yeah, I was probably out of line in saying that. Just seems like things have gotten a lot snarkier here lately and there are a lot of new handles floating around. The negativity just seems kind of weird to me given that this is the most exciting roster we've had in years.

I think there's 2 or 3 sources of frustration on the board, and many people have trouble just ignoring. They need to realize they aren't going to change those people's opinions or outlook on the team. It's best just to leave them alone. Easier said than done though.

We're all Blazers fans and we all ultimately want the best for the team.

Personally, I have my doubts about that, but that's neither here nor there.

As long as people, Natebishop included, feel the need to insult the front office, coaching staff, and/or medical staff over circumstances that these people had no control over, then I and anyone else reserves the right to call them out on their ignorance. The Blazers aren't perfect and I respect differing opinions if they're at least thought out and intelligent, but unfortunately people in here just toss out bullshit without any substance, and it's well past annoying.

If you really are a Blazer fan, then don't go out of your way to find the negative in every situation and throw innocent people under the bus. It's irresponsible and insulting. Some people on here may know the very people you've anonymously insulted and take offense to it. If you can't handle the backlash, if you get your feelings hurt over that, then maybe you should of treated others the way you want to be treated instead of spouting off unsubstantiated bullshit in a public forum.

You can't have it both ways. If you get off on being negative and degrading others who you don't even know, then be prepared for others to do that to you. At least you have the protection of anonymity.

Who are you to call people out?

It's their opinion. Why do we have a tough time dealing with that?

Personally, I hope Blazer fans and non-Blazer fans post here. It makes the board that much more interesting for me.

I agree with everything you wrote - except for the boderline-baiting part. There is nothing borderline about it. It is deliberate and intentional.
