On a scale of 1 to 10, how pissed will you be when KP doesn't make a trade?

Let's be honest. This is not an "if" question, because we all know the Blazers aren't going to make a deal.

So, with 1 being "I'm actually stoked we didn't make a deal" and 10 being "I'm so pissed I'm literally going to throw KP off of the top deck of the Fremont Bridge and hope he bounces off the bottom deck on his way into the cold Willamette" where would you stand?

Personally, I'd be about a 6.5.

5.

Only because I know he's got something better planned.

2. If he doesn't make a trade it is because the right one didn't come along. Making a trade just to make one is silly and can comprimise things like chemistry. Only thing I will be sad about is that when healthy we have 12 guys that deserve to play, and really only 9 spots.

And if we don't make a trade at the deadline, I fully expect some sort of trade/signing during the off-season, specifically a trade where we take back more salary and help clean up the roster.

Because his track record is such that if he does not make a deal it is because there was no opportunity to make a deal that will help the Blazers, not in the next 2 weeks or 2 months, but over the long haul.

I'll be a bit disappointed if we don't make any moves, with RLEC or possible cap space, by the start of next season, but not until then.

That's all well and good but if we truly don't make a deal by the deadline, I think you'd have to say he's "hoping" for something better rather than "planning" for it. The only reason you don't make a deal is because you think that somehow you have a better chance at getting someone over the summer, even though you'll have minimal cap flexibility, less trade assets, and potentially far fewer willing partners.

Or there was nothing out there that was worth it.

very strange scale but my best guess is about a 3. I won't be stoked that he didn't make a deal, but I'll be a little bummed that the right opportunity didn't arise. If a Wallace, Butler, or Prince is traded to another team for cap relief I'll probably be closer to an 8.

Good point, and we'll probably never truly know the answer to this. But I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be some available deal that would improve our team with the Raef Lafrentz contract dangling out there.

10 being mad as hell. If might be the difference between making the playoffs or being in the lotto. and if we are the 8th seed its like the lotto playing LA. If we get a legit SF..we should at worse get the 7th spot

3 - because this team isn't good enough to win it all this year regardless of who we could REALISTICALLY get (read: no Kobe, LBJ, etc.) so if he doesn't make a move it's because there wasn't anything available that was better than what he has in mind in the big picture. Plus, given everything else (previous Pritchslaps, the Darius Drama, etc.) it's not like other teams are jumping up and down wanting to hand over stuff to push us over the hump.

Seriously, if I'm KP, I'm trying to figure out some way to get Tayshaun Prince by February 19. That dude is sick and would probably instantly make us the third best team in the West with a good chance at shocking the Lakers or Spurs in a playoff series.

My initial reaction would be a 8+ but knowing his past track record I'd say about a 5 or so.

Probably about a 7, simply because I don't think we'll be able to do as much over the summer as people think, and RLEC will have gone to waste.

I personally think it has less to do with "nothing being available" and more to do with KP "not liking midseason trades," which I don't agree with. If the right trade comes along, you do it.

Whether or not they make a trade, this team is making the playoffs. If we do make a trade, it'll likely just improve our playoff seed, which will be no better than #3 or #4 even in the best of all scenarios. Even then, we don't win the West or god forbid the title this year.

What's going to be annoying as fuck is if a trade happens, you'll be making 101 threads pointing to the trade as THE reason we're in the playoffs - which won't be true.

So now you realized that Blazers will make the playoffs so you shifted your stance from "No playoffs is failure" to "No playoffs or 8th seed is failure". Looks like you are increasing your expectations.

I just pray to Lawd that he's MAN enough to keep his empty promise of not posting anymore for the rest of the season if we make the playoffs. That'll be a nice month or so of peace for us!

Everyone cross your fingers (not that we make the playoffs (that's a gimme) - that he'll man up to his word).

GREAT, great point! If a major piece is moved that the Blazers could use and we're not part of it then I completely agree with you.

3.14159265358979323846…

'Cause its a nice round number.

no no no...we are only 3 games ahead in the playoff race as far as being in the playoffs. by no means are we a lock with our defense lol. anyhow im saying IF WE MAKE THE PLAYOFFS...id enjoy playing a team where we had a chance to win. LA would eat us alive. Spurs prob would too but they arent LA.

fuck that...we need 6th seed

As long as we keep winnin', I'm cool!

From out, to 8th, to 6th.

The positiveness is strong within you, young padawan.

Sure we have our weaknesses - but what team doesn't? And have you seen the teams behind us? It's not like they're 100% solid and blitzing the league either. Utah and Houston are crippled. Phoenix might have no one left after 2/19 when they blow up the whole franchise. Dallas is up and down like us. Even NO has and will lose ground without their best player out. Relative to those teams, it ain't so bad here - like you love to make it out to be.

9. Raef is worth 12M of cap space RIGHT now (an 11-14M contract coming back). He's also a $4M check into the pockets of the owner who gets him.

If we wait until June, the cap space we receive from him is about 7M. AND we don't get MLEs, BAE, Vet Minimum, etc. So it comes down to about a 13M loss in value b/w Feb 19 and June. Unless you're counting Blake and Outlaw being gone. But why dump them when you don't have to?

The reason why I'd be fairly irritated is because I think this is the time to do it. Our team is good, but not great. We're going to make the playoffs, but we're not realistically going to go past the first round. We have a TON of young talent, but we're still developing chemistry and cohesion. Making a big trade now wouldn't hurt us that much in terms of chemistry, and then we can spend the rest of this season developing chemistry with the new guy(s), rather than wasting some of next season doing the same thing.

We need to consolidate some of this talent, plug some holes, and round out our rotation. If we get past the first round, AWESOME, if not... It's just one more step towards greatness

In a vacuum I would be a 6, a bit annoyed that RLEC went to waste. But, depending on whatelse transpires, I could end up pleased or more pissed. If Butler is traded (I don't believe he will be) for something that we could have beaten with out scraps, than I will be real pissed. But, if it seems that most trades for expiring contracts brought back crap, then I will be pleased. All things are relative.
