~ Barry Balco Bonds hit HR #715, breaking Babe's record, (by cheating, worsening the tarnished feat even moreso by lying about his use of Steroids)-
Barry celebrated when he got home, by throwing a party with Steroid Spiked Champagne. (boy Frisco came along way from Dead Head spiked Punch-to Balco Bubbly).

~ Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon-rose on the US Billboard Charts to #1-
"Dark Side of the Moon" (DSOM) would remain on the Billboard Charts for a whopping record setting 741 CONSECUTIVE weeks ** reported initially from the RIIA (Recording Industry Association of America) , from 1973 to 1988.

(**reviewing archive Billboard data, reveals DSOM actually spent additional consecutive weeks on the charts blowing away all previous, and future LP's at a mind boggling: 773 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS.

Re-Releasing the album both in the late 90s and again in the new millennium, in Surround Sound, the infamous greatest album of all time, would garner additional years worth of "weeks on the Billboard charts", to a staggering total of: well read the clip below:

DSOM-Current stats: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_200) [Yep, R&R is also a stat driven past time]

As of 2008, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon has been on the charts for over 1,630 weeks, or approximately thirty-one years. Consecutively, the album spent a record 773 weeks on the Billboard 200. The other weeks were spent on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart. Its closest rival is Bob Marley's Legend, checking in at over 975 weeks (Billboard 200 and Top Pop Catalog Albums combined).
Original (short lived title) was Pink Floyd-"Dark Side of the Moon-A Piece For Assorted Lunatics" (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Side_of_the_Moon).

*** Very Uncanny-to find NY the only City with 3 MLB Teams, down to one, (after the vote)- especially in light of the History, behind Ban Johnson's incredible struggle to find a home for his new AL Yankee's, as revealed in "Yankee History"

On the week of 5 May 2006 The Dark Side of the Moon achieved a combined total of 1,500 weeks on the Billboard 200 and Pop Catalog charts.[60] One in every fourteen people in the US under the age of 50 is estimated to own, or to have owned, a copy.***

1 in 14 Americans has good taste.

...DSOM...greatest album ever.

...still listen to it with headphones every now and then. (usually after "burning one") I still have my first copy that I got in '74...as well as a heavy weight vinyl LP version of a remastered "Original Master Recording"...and a CD version of the same OMR.

It's nice to know like minded people who appreciate "The Greatest Album Ever", as well as the Greatest Baseball Franchise/Team of All Time.

Touche-Compadre...!

I wouldn't say greatest, but definitely up there...

Seems like a crappy day in baseball history... I know, though, May 28th 2011, Jeter stole base #327 which passed Rickey Henderson as #1 all-time for the Yankees

greatest album or baseball team?......(just kidding, pulling your chain)....:tiphat:

Your Pinstripe allegiance, 2nd to none, has never been in question...! (we still need a emoticon for pulling chains).

I know, with music, all things are relative to the listener.

DSOM, (last I looked is a 50X Platinum LP) - no doubt, greatest LP of MY generation.....IMHO....

Also 1956 on this day Dale Long of the Pirates went hitless against the Brooklyn Dodgers ending his HR streak of 8 straight games.

1965 The Phillies Richie Allen smashes a 529 foot HR over the roof of Connie Mack stadium off Chicago's Larry Jackson in a Phillies 4-2 win.

2002 In an article for sports illustrated former NL MVP Ken Caminetti stated that about 50% of current major league players used some form of steroids.

Thanks for the additions Rick...incredible to think Long's streak ended on May 28th, when most batters are just getting warmed up....

Richie Dick Allen. Boy he could of been a contender.....one of the most unheralded HR hitters of our time. Some say because he was to publicly controversial, I never saw that when I was a kid tho', (or maybe I wasn't paying attention), but boy could Allen hit them to the moon.....

RIP Ken Caminiti and Steve Howe. I will never forget watching Caminiti as a rookie Astro's Thunder Alley 3rd bagger, thinking this kid is going places. Boy if I only knew then what I know now.

My biggest curiosity is: with the masking agents used by roid mongers, what percentage of fools are still juicing.

In a much earlier post, I was of the mind set, only a fool would still be juicing, due to public and MLB awareness. I think I may of been naive. I cannot help but think guys like Nelson Cruz are still guiltier than sin. What I'd love to be proven wrong.....but with those HR numbers this early, still.....it looks to odd, for a guy like Cruz to be cruising. Baltimore is a dirty drug city, the NY Times said one out of 10 adults in Baltimore are regular Heroin Users. That being the case, I'd think PEDs are as common in Baltimore as they are in Miami, or Tijuana....!

The most HRs Cruz ever hit was 33 (2009). Currently he's on pace to hit 57 I think its time for him to be tested again.

Is that more than any Beatles record? Just curious... that's another band I never cared for even though I can respect the profound impact they've had on the industry...

You know, I was just thinking... I don't even think DSOM is the best album by PF.... I preferred the wall unless I was watching the Wizard of Oz... The Dark Side of Oz is fricken intense!

I tell you I had so much shit going on in the 70s I really didn't pay much attention to the music. If you were to ask me to name two songs from groups like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Grateful dead & several others I couldn't do it. Early 70s like Santana, Sabbath, CCR, Grand Funk, Ten years after, & Zeppelin okay but, from say 73-79 I'm lost.
