C'mon, he's smart enough to know the score. He knows it wasn't an insult to trade him; he was our only expiring deal that worked. CHA would look REALLY bad if they took Dre and then didn't renew his contract. Camby had two years on his deal. I imagine Nate loves Joel, although I don't know for sure. It's the same situation Blakey was in when we traded him to MIL. We made it right and re-signed him as a FA. When he was an expiring again, we moved him for a position of need. You can love guys and still trade them. He may be a midwesterner, but Portland is his NBA home.

I ran into Steve at the Cherry Creek mall right after he was traded from MIL to DEN. I happened to be wearing a Blazer hat. I chatted with him for a few minutes about Denver and Maryland. I then said, "I know you had to be traded to make the deal work, but I hope you'll consider coming back to Portland next season" (he was in the last year of his deal). He looked at me and said, "I'd love it; I never wanted to leave."

Part of me would like to make a trade next year to bring Blakey back. He hasn't found his groove in LA, but we know he works here.

Longtime Portland Trail Blazers center Joel Przybilla will be departing Portland on a Continental flight that leaves at 11:50 PM tonight. If you'd like to say goodbye and thank him for his many years of service, get over to PDX after the game and stake it out. Remember to get there early because of checking in and security and all of that. Here's additional information on Continental's flight schedule tonight including flight number and gate.
