It is about one-third the number of 44 million people reported to have no health care in the US. Seems like a lot of people potentially being reamed in order to benefit another group of people.

It would be wrong to assume that every person whose old plan got cancelled is getting screwed. Some of them might well gain, either by subsidies or by better benefits. I know the news is all about those whose premiums are going up enormously (because they had minimal coverage before, presumably) but that isn't the only situation.

As for 'reaming' one group of people to help another, you could say the same about social security, public education, or just about anything else.

As an aside, I'm really puzzled why the insurance companies sent people letters saying their plan is being cancelled. Seems like it would have been smarter business to send them letters saying 'we've changed the terms of your plan, and also changed your premium'. You don't want to encourage your customers to go shopping and maybe buy from someone else. Maybe there is some regulation that says they couldn't - but my insurance companies don't seem to have had problems over the years changing terms and premiums and sending me a new bill. Don't know why healthcare is different.

Apparently the meaning of the word "potentially" eludes you.

As for your last statement, I think it's a fair point in general. In this instance, however, in selling the ACA the President specifically repeatedly said, "If you like your existing plan, you can keep it...period". That makes the fact that some 15 million people are likely to be booted off of their existing plans without choice relevant to the discussion.
