WASHINGTON -- Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather is getting some heat over the use of the word "watermelon" while discussing President Obama.

The remark was made during a health care debate on Sunday's "Chris Matthews Show."

Rather spoke about how he feels Republicans will regard Democrats, especially Obama, in the fall election.

Rather said the GOP would say, "Listen, he's a nice person, he's very articulate. This is what's going to be used against him. But, he [President Obama] couldn't sell watermelons if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic."

This is ridiculous. I'll bash Dan Rather for lying and ginning up false evidence to promote his political point of view, but just because in his example the good being sold is a watermelon doesn't make him a racist. I'm pretty sure all kinds of folks sell watermelons.
