During my 20 minute morning commute to work today I listened to Gavin Dawson and Chad in Portland talk about how they enjoy shooting and killing small animals. Chad actually said he enjoys it when he sees an animal take its last gasp of air before it dies. They also talked about Pornagraphy, rape and mass murders.

good stuff.

are you kidding me? is this a late april fools?

Re: 95.5 Morning Sports Page

Followed by the Britney Spears hour.

Sounds like they finally realized they know nothing about sports and decided to just focus on their areas of expertise.

I hate it when ppl shoot small animals for fun

Re: 95.5 Morning Sports Page

I used to like the MSP, but I really don't anymore. I only listen when they talk about Blazers.

Me too. Once the Blazer season ends, I will be flipping over more to Collin's show for my morning commute.

Which is rare, in my experience. And when they do, they are pretty much clueless.

No thanks. I've switched to Colin and don't tune back to 95.5 until Wheels at Work comes on.

The only reason I caught D.I.P. defending his Britney tickets this morning was my radio was set on 95.5 from yesterday afternoon. The guy is is a total weasel. How he ever got this gig is beyond comprehension. How he's kept it this long, is even more baffling. Seriously, the Blazers are in the middle of an incredibly tight play-off race, and all he has to talk about this morning is killing small animals and his Britney Spears tickets? Absolutely pathetic.

I never thought there would be a bigger waste of sports radio air time than Gavin and Big Suke. I was wrong.

Re: 95.5 Morning Sports Page

Not kidding at all... it was bizarre.

Is this really the best we can do for local sports programming?

Thats idiotic of them... but honestly really doesnt surprise me about them. I really cant stand them, and its not so much their opinions.. I can handle their different opinions.. its more their general lack of class towards everything. Calling callers Douches for disagreeing with them, saying all this negative stuff towards anyone who disagrees with them. Very disrespectful and a lack of appreciation for the listeners.. The only reason their sorry voices are on the radio. I know I will get jumped on for this but with BFT and Canzano.. although I only agree with him about 25% of the time, he will listen to his listeners who call in and disagree with him, and he is respectful of those other opinions. I actually enjoy his show on the ride home from work, and listen to the debates on that show. But MSP kills me, and I agree with others the only reason I listen is because they talk Blazers when I drive, on my ride to work from 7:45 to 8 its arond the nba which is pretty much Blazers talk.

I was a daily listener up until the point that Oden became a "jobber". That pretty much sealed the deal for me, so I look for other options now. I'm all for a local morning sports show, but I'd like it to be less morning zoo, and more informed. I feel like when I listen to the MSP that I'm listening to a couple of 20 somethings who I just can't relate to, and honestly can't stand the shtick.

The Oden/jobber thing and the ensuing disrepsect they exhibited to their callers who disagreed, and especially to Brian Wheeler did it for me as well.

"20 somethings" gives them too much credit. These guys would be considred immature if they were in middle school.

The whole "People's Chump - La Familia" schtick is beyond lame - exceeded only in stupidity by D.I.P.'s clone speil.

Re: 95.5 Morning Sports Page

Turn the channel. I thought it was obvious that Chad was being ridiculous in order to have people talk about the show.

Looks like it worked. :dunno:

I don't listen to the show, as I don't live in the Portland area. I don't know what kind of small animals they say they enjoy killing, but if they are talking about rodents, you should consider the amount of damage they do before you pass judgement. (I have to admit, taking pleasure in watching them take their last breath is over the top.)

Rodents consume/destroy millions (perhaps billions) of dollars worth of grain and agricultural products, such as alfalfa, each year. They can be shot, trapped or poisoned to reduce populations, reducing the damage they cause. Poisoning, and to a lesser extent trapping, kills other non-targeted animals such a birds and snakes. Shooting them provides food for other animals; such as hawks, buzzards, foxes, coyotes, skunks, snakes, etc.

If they are talking about killing tweety birds and the like, they should be caned on the courthouse lawn. If they are killing destructive rodents, I find it hard to criticize for that, even though I don't care to participate in that myself.

Talking about it and listening to it are two different things. Talking about it only helps their ratings if people then tune in to find out what it's all about.

On the other hand, I hope reading this thread will discourage anyone who reads it from ever tuning into their show. As I mentioned, I heard the Britney Spears bit by accident this morning (radio tuned to 95.5 from yesterday afternoon), but immediately switched to 1080 to listen to Colin.

Pointing out their idiocy does not help their ratings. Vote with your fingers and tune your radio elswhere during your morning commute. If you don't like Colin, try listening to music on your way to work, or as suggested NPR. You won't learn anything about the Blazers, but you wouldn't listening to those idiots either.

When we finally got a second sports radio station in this market, I was hopeful we'd get some more on-air talent with NBA connections. I like Wheels and Kenny on my lunch break and Courtside is always nice, but 95.5 has chosen to give The People's Chump and D.I.P. the coveted morning commute time slot and given the afternoon drive slot to Canzano.

Why is is so hard to grasp the idea that in a market with one professional team, and a fan base that bleeds that team's colors, it might be a good idea to get some on-air talent that is actually knowledgeable in that team's sport?

It's a decent enough show. Their hijinks are pretty stupid, but if you can get past that, they usually get some pretty good guests, especially if you're a Blazers, Ducks or Beavers fan.

I like Colin's show, but this time of year I'm digging all the Blazers and Ducks talk.

Face it ... everyone says they want a pure sports show that does nothing but talks about sports, but if there was a show like that, you wouldn't listen. There's a balance. These guys and Colin balance it pretty well. Isaac and Big Suck on the other hand spend way too much time talking about how many times they poop in an average day. Those guys aren't even sports fans.

They said they enjoyed killing birds (crows were mentioned) and small frogs. They also said they liked shooting birds, horses and bulls with pellet guns and watch them writhe in pain.

I'm pretty sure its all an act, but either way its pretty weird.

I think the strategy is market segmentation. Collin is probably very strong with "reasonable" 28 years and older males. I suspect the MSP decided to target the younger market 18-34 year olds, with the slant on the younger side. Someone who knows the ratings can probably tell us if it is working. I belive, the show isn't meant to be for everybody, rather for strong appeal to a particular segment.

They try to target the demo who makes the most money. Advertisers want stations that have a high income audience. My guess is that they are targeting males 18-50, but arent doing a good job of staying in touch with the educated 30+ crowd.

Based on conversations about the enjoyment of torturing and killing animals, they must be going after the Jeffery Daumer future serial killer market segment. I'm sure they do very well in that target demographic.

I agree with this. 95.5 started with a differnt morning show with Vance and some woman . . . and that show was dry and had no edge to it. I'm guessing the ratings were terrible as it got cancelled quickly.

The MSP definetly has an edge to it and CIP has lasted longer than I thought he would . . . so I figure this morning show has got to be getting better ratings than the first team and is attracting a certain cross section of the community.

i believe it was a reference to the duck basketball players who were charged with shooting geese and ducks at some pond earlier this week.

The cool thing about owning a radio is that it has OPTIONS! Turn the channel if you don't like those guys.

I actually like it when MSP comes on the air, because it means I have to get up in an hour for work.

I'm a big fan of JT and the Brick (or whatever it is called).

But in all honesty, if it weren't for the Blazers (or talking about the Blazers) I wouldn't listen to 95.5 or 910.

I get the idea that many of us in this thread have. All of us have at one time or another listened and decided it wasn't our cup o' tea. While we're a very small sample size, I find it hard to believe the few of us on this thread are the only ones. I really like 95.5 and listen to it a majority of the time while I'm in the car. That being said, the morning show is really bad and after the Blazers season ends, I wonder if the hosts will even last. They get Blazer fans listening for Blazer info in the morning, I shutter to think what the topic of conversations will be during the long summer.

After Adam Carolla left the air, I've been getting into Rick Emerson a little bit. Not a bad way to kill time until Rome comes on.

Yep, those buttons are there for a reason. I made my choice and now listen to Colin, or music, during my morning drive.

Still this is unfortunate. What I REALLY crave is my morning Blazers fix. I was hopeful I'd get this with their around the NBA segment as it perfectly fits my morning drive time schedule. Unfortunately, they really know nothing about the NBA and it's simply not worth putting up with their idiocy for the slim chance I may actually hear something worthwhile. In addition to all the childishness and lack of respect for callers and guests, they really just don't know much about NBA basketball.

Wheels and Kenny is much better, and gives me something to listen to during my lunch break. I just wish there was something comparable in the morning.

All this talk about 95.5 makes me want to listen to it again tomorrow instead of Cowherd.

Oooo, it's so EDGY! :ghoti:

I've given my opinion about those jerkoffs before! Can't stand them. Did have the chance to meet John Strong, if thats his name? He sat in the TV truck with us last month. Real cool guy.

So if I understand you HCP . . . anyone employeed by the Blazers rule. Anyone in the media sucks.

Did I get that right?
