On a somewhat related note, why does Don Nelson continue to jerk Andris Biedrins around? The guy had 11 points on 5-5 shooting, 5 REB in 2 BLK, but only got 13 minutes of playing time.

If Nellie doesn't want the guy, maybe that's someone the Blazers should target to address our current needs at center.

Great move. He only has 5 years/$50 million left on his deal. That would work great, wouldn't it?

Biedrins would be great ... Turiaf wouldn't be bad either.

So...you have to pay his contract? No? Then who the fuck cares? He's productive and he's healthy. He'd be a tremendous upgrade at center.

Turiaf is an enigma. He's a HORRIBLE rebounder, but a very good passer. He blocks a lot of shots, but he's a turn over machine.

I'd MUCH rather have Biedrins. At the age of 21, he had a PER of 19.2, led the league in FG% (0.626), had a TRB% of 19.1, had the highest ORtg in the league at 127 and posted 8.0 WS.

He followed that up last year at 22 with a PER of 19.1, a TRB% of 20.1 and averaged 11.9 PPG and 11.2 RPG. He's in his 6th season in the league, but he's only 23. He has a career FG% of 0.604.

He was injured earlier in the year and now can't seem to get out of Nellie's dog house. This line from his ESPN player profile is especially baffling:

"Despite starting over Turiaf, Biedrins has only played over 30 minutes once in the past nine games. Nelson is unhappy with Biedrins play, and unless the seven-foot Latvian puts forth more efforts like Saturday's 18-rebound performance, he'll stay in the coach's doghouse."

The guy doesn't gets starters minutes, but still manages to pull down 18 boards and is criticized by his coach for a lack of effort.

Given that they are going NOWHERE, I wonder if GSW would be interested in dumping Biedrins and the remaining 4+ years of his contract at $9 million per year?

Outlaw + Blake for Biedrins works, gives GSW two expiring contracts and saves them a TON of money.

Outlaw + Blake + Rudy for Biedrins also works, gives them the same two expiring contracts, plus a cheap player that should fit well in their system.

Wrong. He has 4.39 years and $39.51 million left on his contract. You're off by over $10 million.

And, he's a 23 year old center with a 0.604 career FG%. He had a PER of 19.2 and 19.1 the last two seasons, a TRB% in the 19 - 20 range and averaged 11.9 PPG and 11.2 RPG as a 22 year old. He's still quite young, but in his 6th season in the league. He would be a HUGE upgrade this season at center, would be great splitting time with Oden and Aldridge at the 5/4 over the next four seasons and would make Joel an tradeable asset.

Yeah, that would work GREAT. Thanks for asking.

Whoa, man. I'm not looking for a fight, and I'm certain I did not address you. What the hell?

Regardless of that, how is bringing Biedrins and his 13.4 PER and terrible defense to Portland for ~$11 million/per over the next 5 years be a good thing?

What the hell is up with posters here? So rude. Biedrins plays in a wide open offense. He has never once been asked to defend. He makes $ 10 million/per and has accomplished jacksquat in terms of playoff success to earn that contract. Plus, isn't Oden still the center of the future here? Or is Biedrins and his 13.2 PER this year the future?

Shit. That would work GREAT!

Just a friendly word of advice, joining a forum and 'coming hard' from the jump will probably not endear you to many people. Cheers.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. It isn't that bad.

We let a second option that we have been long looking for to be Roy's sidekick go to Golden State?!?!?! :sigh:

:D

I answered your rude, misinformed and factually incorrect question with facts. Sorry you found that so upsetting.

BTW, you're wrong again. Biedrins makes $9 million a year for this season and each of the next four. At no time during his current contract will he make $10 million.

He has had a career DRtg of 105. That doesn't make him as good as Oden or Przybilla defensively, but it's better than any other big man on our roster.

PER and TRB% are pace adjusted. Those stats do not benefit from playing in Nelson's system. The fact is he's a very efficient scorer (career FG% = 0.604) and an excellent rebounder (career TRB% = 18.4).

Yes Oden, when healthy IS the center of the future here. Will he be healthy? Who knows. Will he be able to stay out of foul trouble enough to ever average 30 MPG? He hasn't yet. Biedrins can play both the 5 and the 4. One of the biggest holes in our current roster is back-up power forward. A 3 man rotation of Oden, Aldridge and Biedrins at the 5/4 spots would be incredible. Even when all three are healthy, they'd each average > 30 MPG.

In terms of play-off success, Biedrins has more than Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge. At least he's made it past the 1st round (as a 20-year old youngster).

Yes, his PER is down this season, As I stated, he was injured earlier in the season and Nellie has been jerking him around ever since. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but Stephen Jackson is playing a LOT better since he was traded. Nellie has a tendency to grate on his players to the point where it affects their performance in a negative manner.

Being able to grab a center like Biedrins would save our playoff hopes.

AND it would also help us in the future, this is the only kind of trade we should be looking for while we have a couple of expiring contracts to work with; i.e. we shouldn't waste those on some stopgap measure.

This does show us that when we needed to sign a big man, it wasn't him. He is clearly just a perimeter player. 3 rebounds in 46 minutes?

wasnt i rosted by the bball forum genious.. THE when i said play tolliver?

another good move by kpee.

dont hold your breath on getting creative with GS..... kpee couldnt get creative if his life depended on it

Biedrins strikes me as like Chris Andersen. Active, rebounds, blocks shots, but easy to push around, not necessarily a post defender and not really a center. He's sort of the anti-David Lee - both stuff the stat sheet, Lee on offense, Biedrins on defense, but neither really affects the game all that much.

I want Camby.

He is putting up some good #'s. He is still scrub. I could put up decent #'s in that system though. It's amazing the type of points you can score when you aren't called on to play any defense whatsoever!

Looks to me like the Clippers went on vacation early.

Biedrins is much better offensively than Chris Andersen. He has a 0.604 career FG% and led the league in both FG% (0.626) and ORtg (127) as a 21-year old. He has some decent low post moves and a nice shooting touch. He just doesn't get a lot of touches in GSW's guard oriented offense. He's played his whole career with guys like Baron Davis, Stephen Jackson, Monta Ellis and now Steph Curry that dominate the ball and take a lot of shots. Last year, he averaged 11.9 PPG in spite of only getting 8.6 shots a game.

No thanks. Camby peaked four years ago. He's 35, which makes him 12 years older than Biedrins. Biedrins if better now offensively, nearly as good defensively and on the boards and is still years away from reaching his peak.

Camby would be a "win now" solution for a team that has a chance to win it all this year. Biedrins (or David Lee) would help this season, but could also be a part of this team's long term success.

I'd love for Portland to acquire Biedrins. I've never really thought about him for Portland since I always assumed Golden State considered him a cornerstone, but he's been tremendously productive from a very young age. Having both him and Oden would be an embarrassment of riches at center.

If his abnormally poor season this year and being in Nelson's doghouse makes him more available, I hope Pritchard explores a possible trade for him.

You repeatedly complained about people being 'rude'.

OK. I think I did it twice, but thanks for caring. Do you talk about basketball, or do you just tell people what they posted?

As a segue ... is there an ignore function on this site?

Huh? Who the fuck are you? I'm talking hoops, and I have people like you chasing me down. What's your MO, other than posting polls about yourself? Are newbies here supposed to just take this shit? If so, you've got the wrong guy.

Polls? Oh the one I created back in September as a joke cause hoop season hadn't started yet. Lightin' up Francis. Sad thing is I know Brian Grant and he is a great guy. You need to change your name with all that anger you're spewin'!
