Intriguing.

Portland's backers of baseball have the blueprint for a state-of-the-art baseball-only stadium, which would have a retractable roof and seat 35,000. They have community support, including that of the current city administration. A site, endorsed by mayor Charlie Hales, has been chosen, next to Memorial Coliseum and the new Rose Garden, home of the NBA's Trailblazers.

Baseball is my first love. I'd LOVE a team here... but it's been so many times of "can't do it." But this one feels a bit different.

I'll believe it when I see it..... but I'd love to see it happen. I've wanted another pro team for a while. I'd even watch hockey. I wish we could get an NFL team, but I know that won't happen.

I think we will in the next 5-7 years, IMO. They are thinking of expanding to 16 teams in each league... I would hope they would put us in the AL west, but I doubt that with the Astros coming in.

Next to Memorial Coliseum and the Moda Center? Which side?

Between 'em! Free chalupas if a home run breaks a window in the MC!

I wonder if they meant the Blanchard site. That's the only realistic place.

A retractable roof is just throwing money away imho. And besides that, I doubt that it'll happen.

I wish they'd move the A's up here. I'd LOVE to have the A's rivalry with Seattle.

I was thinking the same thing... maybe that huge part where all the businesses are... no idea.

I prefer the plan to put the stadium over by the new bridge. There was a beautiful mockup of that. I could only find this.

Probably where the Portland Public Schools Admin building is. Lots of potential around there.

So where does the OMSI parking go?

Baseball is Sooooo boring to watch though. But it's better than hockey

Why do you say that? April and May in Portland can be awfully wet. How much more does it cost?

so for 2 months they'll need the roof? I'm not sure that can justify the rest of the season.

As for the cost, I have no idea. If it's not unreasonable, who cares. But it seems unnecessary.

As for the average rainfall in April and May, let's just say it's less than:

Boston, New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Atlanta, St Louis, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

Seattle and Miami also have more rain per month, but only Miami needs a retractable roof.

Second potential misrepresentation of "average." The problem with portland weather is that it never pours like the midwest or east coast. It just drizzles incessantly. Never know if such situations would trigger rain delays but it's possible.

Just think baseball and hockey fit Oregon. Pat Casey is a legend for the Beavers baseball team...he should coach any pro team that comes to Portland. Baseball is the most family friendly sport..if you catch a game winning ball, your kid can take it home. Hockey is really fun to watch. Why not?

Paul Allen has had a couple of chances at an NHL team already and he's the reason we don't have NHL here.

Never happen. There is no money to build a stadium.

Didn't you see they're trying to get a Japanese company to buy a team, i'd sure they'd love to foot the bill on a stadium too!

Seriously though, get a local tribe to do it.

Would absolutely love to get the A's up here though, would drop the Mariners in a second.

There are enough people in the city of Portland that made it so we couldn't dare touch the Memorial Dumpiseum, so I have no confidence that they'd allow a local tribe to have anything to do with it. Unless they added a bike lane in the outfield.

I really hate that they think the MC is a historical building. We're not talking about something from the 1800's.... It's an old piece of shit. Yes there are some good memories, but it's a huge waste of space.

This location?

Btw, Portland has one of the best climates for baseball.

Yeah, I could understand if it was unique in it's design (it does have neat features), but it's not like it was built in during the WPA or was really ornate. It's a box.

Can't have us dirty indians owning anything anyway, we'd probably put a casino next to it.
