OT - Bryant calls referee "fucking ***got"

How do you know "everyone else did." It looked like Two of the refs had their backs turned to Kobe. I'm not saying they didn't see it, but it could be a possibility. And players get away with barking and throwing things all the time. This is being magnified because it was caught on national tv an because you Blazer fans HATE Kobe. You don't find anyone else talking about his outburst. Yelling the gay slur is what caused the fine and now the media
Hoopla.

I'm pretty sure most small market teams hate the superstar calls/non calls the "glory" teams seem to always get. Sure, I think K*be's a walking piece of excrement, but you can't argue that he didn't deserve to be tossed for his outburst. Hell, he should have been chucked for any one of the incidents (kicking the chair, throwing the towel or calling the ref a perjorative).

I agree he should've been tossed for it. I haven't said otherwise, but I don't think you can go back and dish out a technical after the fact, can you?

No you can't, but usually the NBA will suspend on those types of reactions, even if you think it's not justified.

I found many talking about his outburst. Boston Globe, gawker.com, New York Post, ESPN, Yahoo! Sports, etc...and then others talking about his apology for the outburst. Even Adande and Bucher are talking about it (though, predictably, in a light that tries to make K*be look good)

It's understandable that you're sticking up for your player. It's folly, imo, to opine anything other than K*be brought this upon himself with his actions, or to say that only K*be H8ters are talking about this.

If it was nothing worth being magnified, why did he apologize? Dwight Howard and Rasheed didn't apologize for their techs. I don't think that the Blazers' chapter of "We H8 K*be Anonymous" was behind Stern calling him out and fining him $100k.

This. The $100K fine seems steep, until you calculate what a suspension means for his wallet. Mamba, an example I can offer is where Andre Miller had his consecutive games streak ended for taking a shot at Blake Griffin. He got a tech, but the league reviewed it and suspended him for a game.

IMO, that's less than what K*be did.

kobe is a self loathing homosexual, which is too bad, he should just be himself, come out of the closet, and live the gay lifestyle he has always dreamed of, and wished he was strong enough to embrace.

100k is nothing, try screaming ***got at work sometime and see what it gets you

A simple write up.

I love working for Starbucks. Damn near impossible to get fired.

lol, right

and i said try screaming it. so do it. and see what happens. ooh make sure there are millions of people watching first.

and what is a simple write up at starbucks? how many of those can you get before being fired?

If you used the word "***.got" in Startbucks, you are fired. I guarantee it.

i would agree, if anyone heard you of course, he might just mutter it under his breath to himself in the bathroom

Yeah I mean if you used it in front of customers so that everyone could hear it. I mean that's what Kobe did. He knew that the media would blast it and the game was nationally televised.

Kobe kicks a chair, throws a towel, insults a ref, and gets a $100K fine.

Phil Jackson admits the lock-out contributed to his decision to retire, and he gets fined $150K.

How much evidence do people need that Stern in deranged?

Stern cares more about the lockout than ***gots.

Phil got fined for saying THAT? This might be the one and only time I have sympathy for a Laker cause. That's just absurd.

why dont you find out, suck his dick, and tell us if it tastes like shit

John Amaechi wrote a column

He's uniquely qualified to comment, as a former NBA player, who is gay, who knows Bryant.

Some quotes:

When someone with the status of Kobe Bryant, arguably the best basketball player in a generation, hurls that antigay slur at a referee or anyone else — let’s call it the F-word — he is telling boys, men and anyone watching that when you are frustrated, when you are as angry as can be, the best way to demean and denigrate a person, even one in a position of power, is to make it clear that you think he is not a real man, but something less.

I challenge you to freeze-frame Bryant’s face in that moment of conflict with the referee Bennie Adams. Really examine the loathing and utter contempt, and realize this is something with which almost every lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender person is familiar. That is the sentiment people face in middle and high schools, in places of worship, work and even in their own homes across the United States.

and

A young man from a Los Angeles public school e-mailed me. You are his idol. He is playing up, on the varsity team, he has your posters all over his room, and he hopes one day to play in college and then in the N.B.A. with you. He used to fall asleep with images of passing you the ball to sink a game-winning shot. He watched every game you played this season on television, but this week he feels less safe and less positive about himself because he stared adoringly into your face as you said the word that haunts him in school every single day.
