Given that Memphis essentially handed them last year's title with that Gasol Trade?

http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/02/26/phil-jackson-ilgauskas-situation-a-sham-and-charades/

Phil Jackson called it a "sham.'' He dubbed it "disrespect for the league.'' He called it "charades.''

So, Phil, how do you really feel about Cleveland's recent deal involving forward Antawn Jamison and center Zydrunas Ilgauskas?

With Ilgauskas most likely to return to the Cavaliers after having his contract bought out earlier this week by Washington, FanHouse asked the Lakers coach after Friday's shootaround his thoughts on the situation.

Cleveland on Feb. 17 had sent Ilgauskas to Washington in a three-team deal, landing Jamison, a two-time All-Star. It now looks as if the Cavaliers will be getting Ilgauskas back after the NBA-required 30-day waiting period, which would place his return around March 20.

Once again, Phil Jackson shows his true colors as a little whiny bitch when he doesn't get his way. What a fuckhead.

It is hypocritical. Essentially this is how the Lakers acquired Fisher after the Jazz waived him.

Doc Rivers made similar comments he liked it when it helped the Celtics, but now he hates it.

No, just as Andrew Bynum had no room to complain about the officiating during the Dallas game. No franchise in the history of mankind has gotten more gifts from officiating than the Los Angeles Lakers. What a joke.

Hahaha... Where's Drizzle when you need him?

At the same time I think the league really needs to address the trade rules. Basically it is a direct circumvention of the cap, which is against league rules. Unfortunately, the league has been letting teams (San Antonio has done this multiple times) for years, and the precedent has been set.

Not really, but the 30 day rule is really weak, and it's ridiculous that Z is going to (most likely) be back on his team again soon.

Im pretty sure Phil is talking tongue and cheek. Right after the trade deadline he was asked about all the transactions....and then specifically about the Jamison trade...he blew that trade off and said he only cared about the trades in the Western Conference...

He says LOTS of things sarcastically that wouldnt transfer to print....If there is a video of this quote I bet you he is cracking a smile through all of it

He is probably just wanting Greg Popovich to hear his quote! :ghoti:

Oh did you guys overlook where Greg took back his critical comments about the Pau trade?

I wonder if Phil still smudges the Laker locker room before each game.

I hope Paul Allen dumps a yacht load of money on Phil's feet to coach us next year. That way, these quotes will become funny because he's saying them as our coach.

he only coaches winners, sorry :devilwink:

How can I de-rep julius?:devilwink:

Marc Gasol turned out pretty good. Cap space also allowed them to get All-Star Zach Randolph for nothing. They also got 2 first round picks in the deal and the cap space they created allowed them to get another from Denver. It was a solid trade for Memphis.

Trading a player for another player and then having that player waived only to re-sign that player is a completely different situation. And for the folks saying that this is the same as the Derek Fisher situation a couple years back...ridiculous. Fisher played 2 seasons in Golden State and 1 in Utah before he ASKED to be waived so he could be closer to his daughter's doctor. (it cost him $8 million to do so by the way.) It's not even CLOSE to the same situation.

But I can think of at least one other time this exact scenario has happened. Stacey Augmon anyone?

In retrospect the Pau trade was pretty damn good for Memphis. Two huge expirings, Marc Gasol (good young starting C), Javaris Crittenton (good prospect at the time, turned out being a bust though), and two first round picks.

money talks, and bullshit walks. There's no coaches salary cap.

If you're Phil Jackson, imagine this. You've won 10 titles (maybe 11), and people still give you shit about always going to teams that are pre-prepared. Now is your chance to prove it with a team that doesn't have arguably 1 or 2 of the best players in the league, and if you can make them a winner? You'd basically cement yourself as the best coach in all of sports. Period.

Do all that AND be paid 20 million? That'd be hard to pass up.

DaRizzle your avatar makes me fall out of my chair laughing everytime I see it.

Not for Phil...his health is ok but deteriorating, thats why he is on a bunch of one year contracts...Phil is riding off into the sunset after he is done with the Lakers which could be at the end of this year....but I think at least one more year after this one.

Its not in his personality to do what you proposed

Yah, it's not his personality to go where the money is...which is why he didn't go to LA...because he's all about being pure of heart, and not into it for status and money...

btw, isn't he on the end of a 2 year contract?

oh...and hes boning the owners daughter....hes staying in LA retired or not...lol

He went to LA cause of money....and two guys named Kobe and Shaq who hadnt won a 'ship yet

Mitch K (GM) was on the radio in the last week saying its all one year contracts....i think that also refers to the current year and not just going forward

He went to LA cause of money....and two guys named Kobe and Shaq who hadnt won a 'ship yet

so he wouldn't then go to another city for money and helping a team win titles?

And didn't he "retire" after Shaq was traded, because he didn't want to coach anymore or some such nonsense?

Ok, Paul Allen can offer him 30 million for 1 year if he wants.

no...his age, health, relationship, and everything he has said these last few years indicates that would be the last thing he would consider.

And didn't he "retire" after Shaq was traded, because he didn't want to coach anymore or some such nonsense?

Because of health concerns, and Kobe was more of a douchebag then than at any other point of his career....haters can also speculate that he didnt think the Lakers would be contenders anymore so he bailed

That kind of ridiculous choice by your team would be par for the course. :devilwink:

Don't let this go to your head, but you're probably right. On both accounts.
