Chris Peterson. He certainly deserves the opportunity.

Discuss.

Def a hell of a coach who deserves a big time job.

He doesn't want to leave Boise. He could have had just about any open position over the past three years--there's a reason he hasn't taken any of them.

Plus, I understand that Arizona is going after him hard, backing up the Brinks truck. They'll fail too.

How can he not realize that he'll never get a shot at a national title in B-Town?

Peanuts.

BOISE, Idaho -- Boise State has gotten permission to fatten the five-year contract of football coach Chris Petersen.

The state Board of Education approved a series of tweaks to Petersen's contract on Thursday.

Under new terms proposed by the university, Petersen's automatic one-year contract extensions for every season the Broncos win eight games would include a $100,000 raise, double the previous amount.

Petersen's bonus for earning a BCS berth would increase by $25,000. Under the current deal, Petersen gets a $150,000 bonus for a BCS game and $100,000 for winning a conference title.

Petersen's total compensation this year will be $1.5 million. That amount increases by $100,000 every subsequent year to $1.9 million in 2015.

His buyout clause is valued at $650,000.

$1,500,000 this year with increases to $1,900,000 in 2015

No one said UCLA (or anyone else) can't afford him. His buyout is irrelevant. Fact is, he's happy where he is. Until that changes, he's going nowhere.

Well, Arizona may very well be going after him. I'm just thinking that the lure of an actual big-time (yes, I consider UCLA big-time) program, replete with Fort Knox, just might be hard to turn down. Sometimes, just sometimes, wives have says in the matter, as well. In fact, just look over yonder from UCLA to USC.

UCLA doesn't pay their football coaches top dollar though.

I heard that Zona's AD has a strong relationship with Peterson. I know the AD at Boise was recently let go, so who knows how the current work relationship is.

that said, CP is earning millions and I'd imagine that goes pretty far in Idaho. His job security is looking pretty solid. Sure he may never get a crack at a National Championship in Boise, but for me at least, living in LA or Tuscon is a lot less desirable.

he's probably as obvious a candidate as there is for just about every big time program with an opening. If I'm him I'm pretty confident that I can keep the BSU train rolling to ranked seasons so I know that job offers will keep coming year after year. Of course a shot at a championship might be alluring at a bigger program and a fat contract would be a given, but I'd also want it to be somewhere I'd like to live.

Does the UCLA job pay more? Is it really more desirable?

Their football stadium isn't even on campus

IMO its more desireable. With SC's scholarship reduction going into effect. So Cal kids who wanna stay closer to home and play for a pretty good coach, can have that chance at UCLA if Petersen goes there. UCLA IMO would be better at balancing being a Basketball and Football school. Arizona hasnt shown yet they can do that.

think Rich Rodriguez wishes he'd stayed at West Virginia?

he blew it, wv was his alma mater if i remember correctly as well, his "dream job"...what a clown

There are going to be a few NFL coaches who are scrambling for a way to pay the bills soon too. How long will PA allow the Peter (2-4) show to continue in Seattle?

That's a debate. I think they are comparable jobs. The pressure to win would be greater at UCLA. I think Tucson is also a much better place to live than LA. Recruiting should be the same.

Settle down, settle down. This is a Duck thread, not an ABM one.

You were just so sure of yourself, I had to respond. It's in my nature.

Had you said something such as, "Some people say...." (ala Canzano), or "There's a strong chance..", then you wouldn't have heard a peep from yours truly.

I mean, c'mon, BP, if I don't keep you in check, then who would? Shoot, you'd start to think you could run rampant in these parts. That would be an ugly sight.

Are you a UCLA fan, ABM?

No, not at all. I just know that Peterson deserves way more than BSU. UCLA actually used to have a rather good program under Terry Donahue. Neuheisel has made shambles of the current program. It just appeared to be a good fit bringing Peterson in.
