Henson pulled into the parking lot outside Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers in a majority white neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI on Monday to look at a watch. Instead of paying the 6’10 big man rapt attention the way they would most any other potential buyer, though, store employees locked the front door and implored him to leave. After he rang the door bell, those inside moved to the back of the room.

That’s when a pair of police cruisers parked nearby and kept an eye on Henson for five minutes. The officers subsequently approached and began peppering him with questions, including where he procured the luxury vehicle he was driving. The former University of North Carolina student explained the car was on lease as the result of an endorsement deal, and that he was simply there to do some regular shopping.

After running Henson’s license plates to confirm his story, the policemen finally went to the back of the shop and told Schwanke-Kasten employees that there was nothing irregular occurring – except to them, apparently, a black man doing something other than committing a crime.

Despicable.

So he can sue them, right?

Or there's some kind of federal law that they broke?

Next time they won't have to pretend.

If I'm Henson, I pull out my checkbook, I buy the store and then I put their frightened asses in the unemployment line....

Shit, something like that wouldn't even happen down here and I see a truck with a confederate flag on it several times a week, as well as an suv that says "white pride" on the back of it in low income housing.

Wow, this some fucked up shit.

Bullshit. It wasn't about race, it was about the dealer plates on his car. They had been robbed more than once recently by people with dealer plates on their car.

Ohhh, now that makes more sense if that's true.

Got a source for that? That does change things.

Dixon said the store has had three armed robberies in 18 months, and one of the suspect vehicles involved is from the same dealership as Henson's vehicle. Dixon said when employees saw the vehicle with dealer plates, they became suspicious based on the previous robberies.

Still fucked up, regardless. They handled this in a pretty shitty manner.

So they're profiling a car dealership? Riiiiiight. I can't imagine there are a ton of luxury car dealers in Milwaukee, so it would stand to reason that MOST luxury cars in the area are from the same dealership.

How do you figure? They spotted a suspicious plate, and acted accordingly. Race had nothing to do with it.

Dealers Plates are a plate that a car dealer can move from car to car so it can be driven before it is sold and licensed in a customers name. It's a combination of letters and numbers assigned to a particular dealer. It is extremely unlikely that a person saw that the car had a dealer plate and was able to determine that it belonged to a specific car dealer. The police can easily do it but the general public can not. It's similar to you looking at someone's license plate and knowing who owns a car.

Milwaukee.

smh, someone get me out of the midwest and send me to NY or Cali, or at least Chicago!

Yeah, I was thinking, a jewelry store salesgirl looked out the plate glass storefront, and her eagle eye analyzed the tiny writing on a license plate bracket a hundred feet away?

I used to give people the benefit of the doubt, but it's hard to when many of these communities do the same to people of color.

That's some messed up racist shit

they clearly realized that they had a shitstorm on their hands and came up with this dealer plate nonsense.

whatever, they lost out on a sizable bling sale i would venture, so they blew that... maybe all of the totally not racist white god fearing hobby lobby conservatives will rally around them and purchase all their virginity promise rings in order to offset the loss.
