Right now I'm listening to Mason and Ireland ESPN LA radio (podcast) from yesterday when the news was breaking. They are flabbergasted that anyone would ever choose to leave the Lakers.

While I enjoy swimming in the deep, warm waters of Schadenfreude as much as the next guy, it's just tempting the Basketball Gods to mock the L*kers. Yes, they'll suck this year, but wait until they get the #1 pick in the 2014 draft, clear a bunch of cap space then bring in LeBron and another couple of terrific free agents.

Lakers will not make the playoffs next season; probably tanking too. They will get a top 3 pick and have enough cap space in two years to land Aldridge and lebron

I honestly don't see the Lakers signing anyone great until Kobe retires. No matter who the Lakers sign Kobe is always going to want the ball first, the most and last. Wade and Bosh happily defer to Lebron. Kobe has never and will never do that. That attitude is what made him one of the all time greatest players ever but that same attitude will be a huge turnoff to potential free agents.

Who cares that we all know the Lakers will either win the lottery and get gifted another star. Before that happens i'm going to swim through the tears from lakerland!

If Kobe comes back when he says he will (By December) they will be just good enough not to get a top pick. I am going to enjoy their misery for a few months then cautiously root for them to be 9th in the west.

Kobe, Nash, Gasol, WP, Blake, and Jordan Hill all have too much pride to tank.
It will be interesting to see who they add this summer knowing they need Cap space next year. It will also be interesting to see if Kobe's time table to return is pushed back.
