With veteran point guard Derek Fisher and the Lakers no closer to reaching an agreement on a new contract Friday, the five-time NBA champion has accepted an invitation to meet today with Miami Heat president Pat Riley.

Fisher's agent, Rob Pelinka, and Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak continue to have conversations about a new deal. Meanwhile, other teams, including the Heat, have begun to pursue the 35-year-old Fisher.

Riley, in particular, reached out to Fisher personally, according to a league source. So did several new members of the Heat roster, a high-powered group believed to include LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

In addition to the Heat, a newly minted NBA title contender in the wake of the decisions of James, Wade and Bosh to join forces, Chicago, Minnesota and New Jersey also are believed to be interested in Fisher.

Moreover, Fisher has not ruled out a return to the Lakers, according to the source. Salary, the length of the contract, plus Fisher's role and the ability of a team to be a title contender are among his criteria for signing.

Recent reports in various media outlets that the Lakers were offering Fisher a one-season deal worth $2.5 million, with Fisher asking for two seasons at $10 million, are inaccurate, according to the source. Fisher made about $5 million last season.

Fisher helped guide the Lakers to their second consecutive championship with a victory last month over the Boston Celtics.

Lol Fisher is just trying to scare the Lakers'. He won't play for the league minimum.

So I guess his daughter is all better and he doesn't need to move to a city with the specialist?

He wants to play on a great team, who can blame him. He probably see the writing on the wall that the Great White Hope is gonna start for the Lakers next season to.

I think they can give Fish something like $2.5MM/year deal (what the L*kers are offering) and sign Miller to that $27MM deal. As I understand it, James and Bosh are taking $2.1MM less and Wade is taking $2.6MM less.

It's a smart move on their parts. They take less money, but get actual pieces around them. If they get together and have no help, they'll likely fall short and then the endorsement dollars go out the window.

Good points. I think they actually signed Miller for 30M, which means Fisher is going to have to take a pay cut no matter what. I expect he will stay with the Lakers; but, with Riley, as we've seen, anything is possible.

Fisher is a very poor defender these days, at his age I wouldn't bother anymore.

he'd be a good signing for miami

I don't think so. He was terrible last season, despite pulling his shit together for several good playoff games. Overall, I would say his days as a heavy rotation player are OVER.

yup... hopefully the Heat & Lakers get into a bidding war
