Apparently Xavier Henry has replaced OJ Mayo in the starting unit. Anybody interested?:devilwink:

Man, that guy is just really not attractive as a prospect. I could see him going someplace like Milwaukee or Minnesota (haha).

The guy who can't beat out Xavier Henry will turn this franchise around!

It's funny because I thought that Love for Mayo trade was pretty bad for Minny at the time, but it's certainly looking like McHale got the best of Chris Wallace on that one (haha).

hes exactly what we need off the bench... a pg who can score.

johnson dribbles in circles... makes a bad pass... turover or violation. i think we need a pg more then anything

I am not so sure this is about the talent. Memphis has had a problem with not enough shots to go around for all the players, and I am pretty sure this has more to do with the lack of shots for his position as opposed to Xavier Henry actually beating him out. My guess is this is a problem between Mayo and Hollins, and has little to do with the talent he carries.

But that being said, in the rebuild now or later thread, I mentioned looking for talented players who are not fitting in their current teams. I mentioned Terrence Williams in that thread. OJ Mayo would fit that bill as well. Everybody knows OJ Mayo can ball. Terrence Wiliams can too. Maybe they just dont' fit in there, like many of our players here, don't fit in here.

this move would SAVE THIS SEASON

No not really, but it wouldn't hurt. The team's problems won't be solved until we get some bigs to provide screens, spacing, and rebounding. Blazers physicality = zilch.

If we only had Kpee to pull off the mid-season trade.

Go Blazers

have you noticed our bench cant score?

Oh definitely. Have you noticed how they don't have anybody to set screen, be a post presence, and rebound? Everybody on the bench unit needs assistance to get scores by having bigs break them free. Rudy plays off of screens and pick and roll exclusively. Armon Johnson just pounds the rock until the shot clock runs out because nobody can set a screen for him. The spacing is all fucked up because everyboy on the team plays 15 feet and out. How many times were there passes into Lamarcus (If you can call them "into" when he is 15 feet from the hoop) and when he gets the ball there are 2 Blazers and 3 defenders around him because the spacing is bad? That pass needs to be 10 feet or less from the hoop, and then the spacing between him and the perimeter players opens up lanes.

Mayo isn't a PG. He wants to be, but... he's not. At least not a good one.

Ed O.

hopefully joel will help johnson on 2nd team with screens

but we still need a scorer off bench

hmm things ive said for 2 years yet now people finally see

I feel exactly the same way. Mayo wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure he does anything to improve this team's prospects in the short or long term unless or until the front-court gets dramatically better (tougher).

Antoine Walker just signed with the Idaho Stampede, maybe he can save the Blazers season?

The team wasn't the same 2 years ago as it was now. Each of those years we had guys to fill the roles that we need bigs to do in order to still win. Frye left we replaced him with Howard. Howard left we replaced him with nobody. Now Dante is playing his ass off to try and play that role on the team, but he is just too small. He gets hammered physically, overwhelmed by size, and can't just pull it off. Nothing against Dante, but he is overmatched at that position.

Mayo's a volume shooter who doesn't have a position and doesn't play a lick of defense. Basically a glorified Von Wafer. I'll pass.

If anything we should be looking to acquire Jeff Teague. A young PG with serious upside that we could probably get on the cheap. He could be like an Eric Maynor type pickup.

Mayo's a volume shooter

I want to retire this phrase from the Blazer forums as a reason to not trade for a player. We obviously don't need a "volume shooter" since they would take valuable touches away from Oden and Roy right?

It looks like Carl Landry might have got himself into the doghouse in Sacramento as well, benched because he slept in too late one day. Jason Thompsen inserted back into starting lineup. One team's doghouse, is often another teams gold mine.

Mayo is an undersized SG who has yet to hit a PER of even 15 in his career. Benching him was one of the better moves that Memphis has made.

Batum got himself in the doghouse for playing within the very system the coach that benched him instilled

I think it has more to do with Batum playing like shit the past two weeks. He has a double-digit GameScore in only one of his last six starts (12.3 vs. Denver, yet even he shot 5-14 FG and 2-7 3FG in that game).

Everyone but Cho and Nate are interested

Who's everyone? OJ Mayo is a famous name from his blue chip prospect days, but he hasn't been a good player in the NBA and he's not trending up in performance.

When I think of volume shooter, I think of a guy that has to put up a lot of shots to get his points. Basically the perfect description of Mayo.

BTW, a lot around here are making Henry look like a bad prospect. The kid is going to be a good player. Mayo was just a product of overhype since middle school. I find it funny that he's okay with coming off the bench.

Wow, really? I'd almost consider starting Landry over Aldridge. Seriously.

He's got a lot of talent, but was never coached well. I saw him as a high school junior playing a summer tournament at Grant High and you could see both the talent and selfishness back then.

I think the jury is still out on his long term prospects. I think he can be a better version of Jamal Crawford as super sixth man for a team. Probably not a legit starter at SG unless he's paired with an amazing PG like CP3 or DWill.
