Flynn was Chris Paul maybe?

Rubio was Pistol Pete?

Edit - Damn... not even close.

Kahn reminds me of Daffy Duck.

Go Blazers

I read the article - ridiculous. I won't spoil the surprise for everyone else, but man, Kahn was one fucked up GM. He makes John Nash look competent.

Here's the quote with my edits in bold...

Dave Wohl, Minnesota's lead assistant, remembers arriving in Minnesota and Kahn asking him whether Rubio and Flynn could prosper playing together. Wohl described Flynn as a good, ambitious kid. He also said that Rubio and Curry would have made a better pairing. He didn't believe either Flynn or Rubio could perform at shooting guard. "He said, 'No, no. I want to play Jonny and Rubio. They remind me of [Bud] Abbott and [Lou] Costello,'" Wohl said. "When he said that, I didn't know what to say. I actually played during the '30s against Bud and Lou and there's just no comparison." Wohl told Kahn that he did not think it was an accurate comparison. "He said, 'Yeah, it is'."

Here's another quote from the article:

Kahn fired Rambis in July 2011. The hire, like most everything Kahn tried in Minnesota, never worked. "Rambis got a lot of shit," Wohl said. "People really just dumped on him. I don't think they understood how little support he got from David Kahn, how poor a draft David did."

BNM

Jerry West and Gail Goodrich would have been another good (but incorrect) guess. For those still playing, Kahn was referring to two teammates that actually played together. So guesses like Kevin Johnson and Jason Kidd would be valid, but Jason Kidd and Stephon Marbury would not.

I compared Ricky to a mix between Rondo and JKidd. Feelin pretty good about that still.

Didn't care enough bout Jonny to even make a prediction. Stay away from 'Cuse

Juan Dixon and Steve Blake?

Damon Stoudamire and Nick Van Exel?

Terry Porter and Rod Strickland?

I felt bad for Rambis. Kahn made him write a paper on why he should keep his job as head coach. He said Kurt made a great case but then fires him weeks later. Why make an NBA coach go through those shenanigans? Kahns roster moves were terrible.

But I think it comes back to that Twolves owner being a fool; he wasted a decade of MVP performance from Garnett and somehow follows that up with the hiring of an even more incompetent GM.

And then hires back the same guy who mismanaged the time with KG as his new pres of bball ops in Flip Saunders.

LOL

still can't understand why people think they'll be better than us. They will never be better than us.

I thought the question was, which one player reminded Kahn of Rubio and Flynn when he drafted them. I expected a Blazer trick question, so I answered Sergio.

Rubio's a great passer and adequate shooter who stays outside, Jonny's a buzzy little bee who roams into the tall trees looking for a receiver, and Sergio is their synthesis.

Dave Wohl was born in 1949, played in the 1970s, and was a Blazer in 1972. I used to watch him on TV.

Is this current assistant coach the same Wohl, or one who is 100 years old (in his 20s in the 1930s)?

Now that I've read the thread, I'll read the article and find who Kahn named.

And Jonny and Sergio were both out of the league at the end of their rookie contracts. Great analogy!!!

I read it.

I was wrong! I was watching a player in his 60s in the 1970s.

Ya learn something every day.

Quiz: Who does David Kahn remind me of?

Hint: It was a TV role played by one of the main actors from The 40-Year Old Virgin?

My favorite David Kahn moment.

Webber, who doesn't seem very pleased, teamed with Divac on the great-passing Kings tandem that really won a championship, if you exclude Stern's orders.

BTW, the thought of a Rubio and Curry backcourt is scary.

A quick SF with some defensive skills could assist on D against wings to compensate for Curry/Ricky, but on offense, that duo is deadly. That draft certainly set the franchise back quite a bit.
