Okay I am a raider fan and I am wondering about something I don't know. Raider and Denver split the season series, they have the same conference and division record. So if they both win next week who wins the division? Is it a coin flip or something?

Here's what I dug up: (http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures)

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in common games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss

I haven't checked it for myself, but according to this site, Denver owns the tiebreaker due to a better record against common opponents.

Yeah I was looking at that too. So the next step is strength of victories. Is it who you beat or by how much? I would think the raiders has a slight edge because they beat Texas and new York jets. It will be interesting to see how this pans out

I don't think it will go to that tiebreaker -- apparently Denver has a better record against their common opponents, and that isn't going to change...

Wow. A fan of not just a Paul Allen OR an Al Davis (RIP) owned franchise, but BOTH?! My heart breaks for you.

It could be worse. You could be like me and be a fan of teams owned by Paul Allen and Dan Snyder. Now, THAT's Hell.

From Silver and Black Pride:

How to Win the West

This is simple. The Raiders win and the Broncos lose. That's it. And there is a very good chance of this happening. The Chargers were awful today, and they will have nothing to play for, and the Raiders have owned them.

The Broncos were even worse today. Either Jesus was too busy preparing for his birthday, or Tim Tebow is just straight out of miracles because nothing was going right. The most alarming thing for the Broncos is the disintegration of their defense.

What a game that is going to be. Kyle Orton has a chance to knock the team out of the playoffs that cut him. I wonder how the Broncos front office feels about that move right now?

How to Win the Wild Card

The first thing that needs to happen is that the Raiders need to win, the Broncos need to win and the Bengals need to lose. All three of those must occur.

After that, the Raiders need:

A) The Jets win

B) The Titans lose

If either or both of those two happen, the Raiders are golden.

So, the only way the Raiders don't get the wild card if they and the Broncos win and the Bengals lose is if the Jets lose to Miami and the Titans win.

I'm not quite as optimistic as this guy seems to be. Even disregarding the Raiders' angle, how crazy would it be if Orton knocked the Tebows out of the playoffs?

Go Raiders

Some more explanation from Vittorio Tafur (of SF Chronicle):

Oakland’s 16-13 win in Kansas City leaves two doors open:

1. Raiders win the AFC West if they beat the visiting Chargers and the Broncos lose to the visiting Chiefs.
(Denver wins tiebreaker over Oakland because of a better record against common opponents — comes down to Broncos beat Dolphins and the Raiders lost in Miami.)

2. Raiders win a wild card spot if

a. Bengals lose and …

b. Either the Titans lose (or tie) or the Jets win
(that’s because the Raiders win 4-way tiebreaker at 9-7 — with Bengals, Jets and Titans — but lose 3-way tiebreaker to Titans. Tennessee wins a lot of different 3-way tiebreakers and has the better record against common opponents since it beat Buffalo and the Raiders lost to the Bills.)
