Awful trade for the Mavs if they swing that deal.

awful trade for the Mavs? enlighten me on how it's a horrible trade for them
Howard is younger and has a much more manageable contract. VC is just another gunner.
The Mavs need a post player. Their PF is a soft, face-up jumpshooter.
Why is everyone acting like this trade has actually gone through?
I don't see anyone acting like it's already gone through. Only the OP with the title of the thread.
In addition to the ridiculous title, we also have:
"Wow... Mavs somehow get older"
"Haha, this is awesome. Dallas and Phoenix's owners have gone insane and are ruining their franchises. Carter to Dallas is a great thing for Portland."
"Good news for us. Dallas' window closes even more, and their way to ineptitude gets quicker. "

touche my friendNone of those quotes show anyone acting like the trade has gone through.
Carter is a much better player than Howard. While this, if true, might shorten Dallas' window, Dallas' window was pretty much already based entirely on Dirk. Howard wasn't going to extend the window beyond Nowitzki's basketball expiration date. Carter makes the Mavs better while Dirk is still a tremendous player.
Swapping Howard for Carter makes them a worse defensive team. VC can score, but his two years remaining at 17 million per is pretty awful contract for a guy on the downside of his career.
This is trade would do for the Mavs what the Shaq trade did for the Suns. Of course I really hope they do it.
I don't see how. Shaq didn't fit the Phoenix system at all, so disrupted what they were trying to do. Carter fits Dallas' moderately up-tempo system. I don't see the parallel at all.
No parallels? Both teams ship off their younger small forwards for aging All-stars on the decline?
I just think VC has one of the worst contracts in the game right now and a shadow of his former self.
He's in the class of a Stephon Marbury or Gilbert Arenas, in terms of bad contracts?
Nobody touches Gilbert in terms of bad contracts. I'd compare VC's contract to players like Shaq, Camby, AK-47 and Zbo. Still statistically productive, but on the decline and salary cap killers.
