Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Awful trade for the Mavs if they swing that deal.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Wow... Mavs somehow get older

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

I don't know about you, but I'd rather have Carter than Howard. :dunno:

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

awful trade for the Mavs? enlighten me on how it's a horrible trade for them

Howard is younger and has a much more manageable contract. VC is just another gunner.

The Mavs need a post player. Their PF is a soft, face-up jumpshooter.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Haha, this is awesome. Dallas and Phoenix's owners have gone insane and are ruining their franchises. Carter to Dallas is a great thing for Portland.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Good news for us. Dallas' window closes even more, and their way to ineptitude gets quicker.

Dirk is an amazing talent. to relegate him to only a "soft, face-up jumpshooter" is wrong. They may need another downlow post player, but how are they gonna get one of those? One that is actually legit? I don't see it happening for Howard

Howard also is an idiot and definitely not someone I would want to try and build around. Carter is a much better player right now and with Kidd retiring soon, the Mavs might as well load up for one more push. Getting Carter pushes them above us in the 2nd half of the season. Jerry Stackhouse is nothing to them because he isn't even playing, and they get Dooling who is a good defensive pg for them behind Kidd.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Wow it will be the Dallas Old-Dudes soon.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Why is everyone acting like this trade has actually gone through?

I don't see anyone acting like it's already gone through. Only the OP with the title of the thread.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Howard seems to kill us every game. Carter...not so much.

In addition to the ridiculous title, we also have:

"Wow... Mavs somehow get older"

"Haha, this is awesome. Dallas and Phoenix's owners have gone insane and are ruining their franchises. Carter to Dallas is a great thing for Portland."

"Good news for us. Dallas' window closes even more, and their way to ineptitude gets quicker. "

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Carter is a much better player than Howard. While this, if true, might shorten Dallas' window, Dallas' window was pretty much already based entirely on Dirk. Howard wasn't going to extend the window beyond Nowitzki's basketball expiration date. Carter makes the Mavs better while Dirk is still a tremendous player.

None of those quotes show anyone acting like the trade has gone through.

Swapping Howard for Carter makes them a worse defensive team. VC can score, but his two years remaining at 17 million per is pretty awful contract for a guy on the downside of his career.

This is trade would do for the Mavs what the Shaq trade did for the Suns. Of course I really hope they do it.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Ridiculous thread title. It makes it sound as if the trade has been completed, when in fact it has only been discussed.

Marginally worse. Carter is an average defender. Howard is above average. Carter is a much better scorer and play-maker for others. They're about equal rebounders.

His contract isn't awful, since he's playing at a high enough level to justify it and it isn't a long contract.

I don't see how. Shaq didn't fit the Phoenix system at all, so disrupted what they were trying to do. Carter fits Dallas' moderately up-tempo system. I don't see the parallel at all.

No parallels? Both teams ship off their younger small forwards for aging All-stars on the decline?

You have a higher opinion of VC than me which is fine. I just think VC has one of the worst contracts in the game right now and a shadow of his former self.

I like this trade for the Mavericks. It might not work out, but it at least gives Dallas a chance of salvaging this thing around Dirk.

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

I don't see a parallel in terms of how badly the player fits his new team. Lots of trades are younger players for older players, but the Shaq trade for Phoenix was particularly disastrous since Shaq was completely detrimental to their running style.

I just think VC has one of the worst contracts in the game right now and a shadow of his former self.

Right, I think that's incredible hyperbole. He's definitely not as good as his prime version, but he's still a borderline All-Star and many people thought he might/should make the team. There are so many bad players making lots of money, it's hard to see how a still very productive Carter could possibly be one of the worst contracts. He's in the class of a Stephon Marbury or Gilbert Arenas, in terms of bad contracts?

Re: OT: Kidd and Carter back together

Nobody touches Gilbert in terms of bad contracts. I'd compare VC's contract to players like Shaq, Camby, AK-47 and Zbo. Still statistically productive, but on the decline and salary cap killers.

How does Ak-47 get grouped with those guys? He has been dealing with injuries, and his numbers are down because he spends all his time being the only good defensive player in Utah's frontcourt. He's hardly apart of their offense anymore which isn't his fault. Boozer, Okur need to be offensive focal points because they give you nothing on the defensive end
