OT: Scoring Margin Means Nothing

Especially the way we got our margin... beating crappy teams by 50 instead of 30 masks the fact that we're losing a lot of games, and sometimes by a lot.

On the whole, though, it's accurate to our position as a wildly inconsistent team that gave up on a coach, with players that waste their one amazing game in seven against bad teams.

It's a supporting indicator for an existing story, but doesn't in itself tell a story.

The record in games decided by 5 points or less/wins in OT are indicators that tell a little more of a story. And our story isn't a happy one there.

Looks like it has a very strong correlation to W-L record to me.

But what point differential in the second half of the games? Surely that means something. :dunno: :dunno:

i dont get it, looks like all of the top teams have positive scoring margins, all of the .500ish teams are around zero, and all the bad teams have negative scoring margins, just as one would expect

Is there some kind of riddle I'm missing out on?

As any good statistician will tell you there's no room for outliers in models

Correlation doesn't equal causation ... but it's a pretty cool thing. I've posted 2nd half stats in the past, but met the same response.

Depends on what it's in proportion to.
