Just got me thinking a bit. Especially since my father just got diagnosed with colon cancer. This on top of my mother having the same diagnose three years ago. Knock on wood she is in remission.

First off its great that you still have your parents considering how old you are. And I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I'll be sure to pop in a prayer tonight for the folks.

Aren't you one of us?

Nah, 46 years young my friend. Plus I live in SoCal, we have the fountain of youth here. Heck I even know guys in their 70s and early 80s at the gym that still bench 225-315. They are the first guys to jump over and spot a kid or correct their form, lol!

I here you Al. My folks are both cancer survivors and unfortunately battling it again. Dad has a repeat of NSCLC, but there are so many treatment options for that type of lung cancer these days, so far so good. Mom has had various types of skin cancer, but the latest one is untreatable except for surgical removal. Merkel Cell Carcinoma, very rare and is thought to be associated with a yet to be identified virus. Fortunately she was caught at stage 0, where the biopsy was all the cancer. Stats are in her favor, survival rate is 10+ years, time for treatment option, etc. to make it into her 90s like her parents.

I don't think I'm the youngest in the group... but I know I'm near the youngest... is there anyone younger than me that's a regular? (I'm 36)

. Sorry sport, you'll be the hazed rookie around here until you can recruit a new kid, lol!

My father spent 21 of his 24 years in the Navy on sea duty as a boiler technician. Told me some stories about the Coal fired destroyers of the early forties. In addition to below deck duty those old ships were asbestos city and like most of the young sailors of that time Camels & Luckies were the butts of choice. So by the time the big "C" was diagnosed he was gone shortly after. He would not opt for the big money insurance payments to buy a few extra days, The man survived Pearl Harbor for started, survived WWI & Korea and gets taken out by problems initiated by service on ships to defend this country. I remember taking to an English Doctor back in '95 who then stated Cancer was a problem because it starts within, don't know how true that is now they've made good progress.

...28 years for my Dad.

...yup, avionics Chief. He made E-7 after 8 years and a few years later made E-9. By choice, he remained at the same enlisted rank for the rest of his career, because according to him, most officers were dick heads. He always said that Sergeants ran the Marines and that Chiefs ran the Navy.

Not long ago I read the biography of one of my favorite actors Steve McQueen. He was only 50 when he died. Cancer which he himself said shortly before his death, was brought on by massive exposure of asbestos that he removed from pipes aboard a ship while serving in the marines.

And Steve (Hammer) , yeah you're the baby of the group. 36? damn I remember 36. Oh who the fuck am I kidding? I barely remember what I had for dinner last night.

And my brother and I would both speak from experience and state that Sergeants ran the Army and Air Force.

Mc Queen was pretty damn good, had some pretty traumatic experiences in the Marines til he decided to shape up. I was in Basic Training at Fort Ord while "Soldier in the Rain was being filmed. The man was good in the flicks, did not care for "Bullit" as a movie but that chase scene was 20 flight.

It was hard to believe that he never won an oscar & was only nominated for one (The sand pebbles). I thought he definitely should have AT LEAST been nominated for his role in Papillon, and Hoffman was also excellent in that movie. I also thought McQueen was great in Hell is for heroes & Nevada Smith.

And BTW Michael I loved Bullet & yes that car chase was off the charts, but I think it was equaled a few years later by The French connection chase scene.
