OT: Stern gets medieval on Arenas's ass

Oh man, KP needs to be all over this. We should be able to seriously help that franchise. Out of the goodness of our hearts, of course.

It makes me wonder how much of last night was Nate trying out Bayless in the 4th quarter instead of Miller for decision making purposes.... Paranoid freak fans dare to dream!:devilwink:

Had Agent Zero showed any remorse at all and not turned the situation into a joke he wouldn't have gotten this punishment.

His behavior after the fact is at least as stupid as the act itself.

That and the Wizards had to be lobbying for just this penalty behind the scenes. Gilbert's contract is the worst one in basketball right now.

Agent Zero Clue need to kiss Godfather Stern's ring. Instead he pissed on the Godfather's shoes. Gilbert is just lucky he didn't get a lifetime ban.

As for the union, they lost a huge amount of power after the last lockout. They are going to loose a whole lot more in 2011. I doubt they want to spend an ton of political capital defending a guy who is so bound and determined to hang himself.

Word is Gilbert's guns weren't licensed in the DC area. So he had a concealed unlicensed weapon in his locker. That isn't a ticket. That's a felony.

Hmmm unsure about that. You aren't legally obligated to register weapons to my knowledge, but I could be wrong on that. Concealed is still a beef though.

How much do you think the Wiz hopes he gets banned. I am sure they would love to be off the hook for that money.

You have to wonder....would a legit superstar get the same treatment - or is this kind of punishment reserved for wannabe stars (Arenas, Artest, Sprewell)?

He almost got away with it, but when his boss took him into the office to describe the situation, it went awry...

Boss: Hippie, we received some disturbing accusations against you.

Hippie: Oh really?

Boss: Yes. Cheryl in accounting says --

Hippie: --Fuck that lying bitch!

Boss: ...thank you, Hippie. You just made my job easier.

Hippie: Glad to help. Lying in the workplace is horrible.

Boss: Indeed. Please collect your things on your way out.

Hippie: Fuck! That lying bitch got me fired!

Yup...pretty much the way it went down...
Of course I managed to get her canned about 2 months later and I took her job...LOL.

Oh I see. So long as he kisses the ring, it's okay. But if he's gonna get uppity, he should get slapped down.

Funny that the NRA hasn't got involved to defend Gilbert's god-given second amendment rights. Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that he's black, would it?

Of course not. It's because...um...ah...well...I'll get back to you on that.

Hmmm looks like this suspension will cost Gilbert a measly 146k per game. :devilwink:

What is the NRA going to support? Since when does Gilbert have a RIGHT to bring guns into his workplace, which is specifically forbidden in the contract he signed. This isn't a 2nd ammendment issue. Nobody's trying to take his guns away from him. Well, they might now, that he was an idiot with them.

I don't get it??

Telfair gets caught with a gun on a team plane (!) and in NYC with a concealed weapon (almost as bad as a gun in DC). He got nothing more than a slap in the wrist.

Maybe Telfair showed more remorse than Arenas did and didn't make fun of the situation; but, this doesn't seem very consistent to me.

That's what seems like a big issue to me.

Also, the real game is gonna be over voiding the $80M left on his contract.

My guess is convicting him will be fairly difficult

If nothing else, given the Heller decision, it’s pretty likely convicting a very wealthy man of a felony for possession of an unloaded firearm will be difficult in the first place, and will require expensive constitutional level appeals.

Arenas sure as hell isn’t going to go quietly if he’s got $80M at stake. At best, the process will take a couple years.

That makes voiding the contract a pretty big question in my mind. It sounds like it can only be voided if he’s convicted of a felony. What happens if it’s overturned on appeal? For that matter matter, what if he makes a plea deal or does a nolo contendre?

LOL at TMZ. They are reporting that the Wiz have been "overly cooperative. Almost as if they want Gil to go down."

Hahaha, no shit. That's a lot of money they save

They are also reporting that it is more than likely it was all caught on tape via secrity cameras. This will not end well for Gil

Very good point... if Gil had a leg to stand on, he should sue for collusion between the Wiz and the League Office. I personally don't care who wins, as long as Stern looks bad and the Wiz have a fire sale. :D

how would it be collusion for the Wizards to cooperate with the league?

the ulterior motive is that they want Arenas's contract of the books, and the League is giving them a gift. That the player's union has been silent tells me there's no way to really make a case for that, but it's pretty obvious that the Wiz are benefiting from a league punishment, which seems like a conflict of interest to me. But that's just court of public opinion BS, not legal.
