Having microfracture surgery on his knee. I guess the Rockets are stuck with his contract one more year.

VC is ours. Book it. By noon tomorrow.

That's sucks for him. It's a shame for Rockets fans as well. I kind of wanted to see that group of players succeed at least one season. Maybe they will someday, but it's really looking like that may never come.

If that's true, that sucks for him and the Rockets. Hopefully he'll be able to come back strong.

don't expect the rockets to drop out of the playoff hunt. unless yao has a significant injury, the rockets are still a lock for the playoffs. and they might even be better off now that they know that tmac isn't going to be available instead of having to deal with the distraction of him coming in and out of the lineup and everyone's roles constantly changing.

Sure, just like every other guy who's had microfracture surgery.

Not likely we'll see the T-Mac who used to score 25-30/night ever again.

If I recall, weren't they playing better with Wafer than with TMac?

Very true. McGrady is always one of those guys who can absolutely destroy you yet his teams never seen too much worse without him.

Yao hasn't played more than 57 games in the last 4 seasons. He's due for an injury himself. If he misses more than a week, the Rockets can slide out of the playoffs with a quickness.

yao isn't due for anything. he's "due" for some injury absolutely unrelated to his others?

the past couple of years, the rockets couldn't afford to lose tmac because they had no one who could replace what he did. this year though with the addition of artest and wafer, brooks, and brent barry all playing well(and tmac playing like shit) he is completely replaceable.

Should I pick up Wafer or Brooks for my fantasy team? I hated dealing with McGrady's crap and finally dropped him.

It's called a pattern. Yao getting injured is like the swallows returning to San Juan Capistrano. You can set your watch to it.

Same goes with Boozer and T-Mac.

Replaceable? What do you mean by that? Oh, I don't doubt that if Yao stays healthy the Rockets can still make the playoffs (without T-Mac)

But can they make a playoff run? No way. You absolutely NEED a 100% T-Mac to play with the Lakers & SA (and probably a few others) Without T-Mac, it's one and done baby. Von Wafer + Brent Barry does not = TMac.

battier and artest are still the starters at the 2/3 spots(and alston at pg) so i don't know if you can expect wafer or brooks to consistently get more than 20 or so minutes a game.

so a pattern is having a terrible big toe infection that requires surgery, breaking your leg right under the knee, and having a stress fracture in your foot?

with tmac it was back problems and knee problems. those are things that you worry about reoccurring. the only injury of yao's that was troubling in that way was the stress fracture in his foot and it doesn't seem like that has really come back to bother him so i'm not worried at all.

That's a pattern of injury. Just like Oden. They may be different injuries, but shows that some guys can't play an entire season.

It certainly can be. As one analyst put it, "Health is a skill and some players don't have it." Even if none of the injuries are recurring, some players aren't very durable and end up missing time due to one ailment or another.

replaceable meaning they don't need him to win games. this is yao's team now. wafer and barry definitely don't equal tmac, but they really are better complimentary pieces to yao. both guys are shooting over 44% from the floor and around 40% from 3. they along with battier and artest can create space for yao to work with or punish teams that leave them open like tmac was unable to do(he was much more of a pull up shooter than a spot on one). this year the rockets have enough players other than tmac that can attack teams off the dribble so that they haven't been as reliant on him as in the past.

the rockets have played 18 games without tmac this year. they are 12-6 in those games. with tmac they are only 21-15.

try again. yao missed two games total in his first 3 years in the league.

the people had houston being one of the top 3 teams before the season werent looking at reality!

Houston= Hurtson, Fragilton...etc

hate to say this but houston was fools gold and they turned out to be what we thought they were.... :P to quote!

Wow, what one typo can do. :biglaugh: I meant to write "yet his teams never seem too much worse without him" not "seen too much worse without him."

You and I agree on this point. As good as he is, he isn't critical to the success of the Rockets as his statistics would imply.

That really sucks for Rockets fans. Wouldn't it be funny though if they finally made it out of the first round without Tracy?

Brooks.

Wafer is a volume scorer and doesn't really bring anything else to fill a stat sheet. Atleast with Brooks you'll get some assists along with the points and he will even get you a couple steals.

Are you quoting the great Bill Walton?
