Growing up in Oregon and taking trips to Tennessee, you learn not to get excited about thunder storms (I love a good thunderstorm too) in PDX. They are never anywhere near what a real thunderstorm is like.

However there was one night like 4-5 years ago where we actually had a legit thunderstorm.
