at least it isn't portland.

Great move for MEM. They had long stretches in the playoffs where they just couldn't score.

How does signing, going to be 38 year old in January and shot 40% from the floor, Vince Carter address that?

Field goal percentage doesn't account for three-pointers or free throws. His TS% (which essentially accounts for points per shot attempt) has been solid over the past couple of seasons. He's still a decent offensive player, even if he isn't great.

I am aware what the TS% is, thanks. The point was that he's not a huge scorer anymore, and 3 years and 12 million (or 2 years and 8 million + partial 3rd year) is a lot for a guy who will be pushing 40 in that time frame.

If Portland signed him to that, it'd be a waste of money.

This is likely Memphis's last gasp with the current core. If they don't do anything significant this year (which they likely won't), Carter essentially becomes a 4 million expiring next year. It's nothing impossible to move.

I disagree that it would be a waste for Portland. I'd rather have Kaman, as I think another competent big man was a bigger need, but if they had the money to also sign Carter to a deal like that to come off the bench behind Batum, I think it would strengthen their bench a fair amount.

This is actually great for Memphis. They don't have that perimeter player.

Carter is a guy I would have liked to see the Blazers pursue. The only way it could have worked, give his salary demands, would have been to use the MLE on him. If they could have worked a sign and trade with the Lakers for Kaman, it could have worked. Bottom line, I think Olshey values his cap flexibility next summer more than he does a seasoned scoring wing for next year.

Memphis doesn't whine about being a small market. All you need is a magnet. If we had Zach, we could attract beaucoup free agents, too.

I still think the Blazers should have made a pitch to Vince Cater.

Thanks but no thanks to VC going back to the Raps.

Much happier with the James Johnson signing.
