Of players with at least one-all star berth (drafted since 1999) that went to UFA:

3 of 35 signed as UFAs with the team they were with going into UFA: Wade, Parker, Joe Johnson.
3 of 35 signed extensions before they went to UFA: Z-bo, Gasol, Jameer
5 of 35 were traded immediately prior to UFA, whether forced or not: Deron, Melo, Howard, Marion, CP3
1 of 35 was a UFA S&T (Lee)
2 of 35 retired as UFAs (Yao, Wally)
21 of 35 left for nothing but cap space and/or 2nds/trade exceptions (everyone else)

to confirm the question, who has been drafted, played their rookie deal, been extended (or matched as RFA), played out that deal, and then been extended a second time or re-signed a second time, all with the same team?

You'd only be looking at players who have been in the league at least 9 years. Like Pierce, Kobe, Dirk, Parker, Wade. You're right, it's not a very long list. It's a transient league.

So, going back to the 1999 draft (only a 6 year+ sample size), less than 10% of UFAs who make it to UFA sign with their old team. Another 10% sign extensions (which can now only happen in last year of the deal). 5 were traded (6 if you count Lee's S&T) so the old team got something for them. But 23 of 35 All-Stars who hit FA gave their old team nothing in return but maybe a 2nd rounder and trade exception/cap space.

That’s a pretty misleading list, 19 guys on it were traded because their team thought they’d get more value. Bynum, Deron, Lee, Harris, Iggy, Kaman, Mo Williams, Butler, Chandler, Gasol, Joe J, Zbo, Kmart, Magloire, Franchise, Baron, Wally World, Rip, Marion, Artest, Brand

9 of them were not wanted by their former team and allowed to walk.
West, Yao, Amare, Boozer, Okur, Arenas, Redd, AK47, Joe J. I'd also add Josh Smith to this list.

There are really only 2 that left as free agents, LeBron and Bosh. If you want to say three and include the traded Brand since he left after his first big contract when his team wanted to keep him that makes sense. 3 forced trades in CP3, Melo and Howard.

This list does do a good job showing how overrated being an all-star is and how many all-stars are unworthy of max contracts shorty there after.

I think this list also shows how rare it is for a player to play at a high level in their second contract. Most players have peaked at 28 and their skills are going to decline.

There's just been too much back chatter about him deciding to move on to ignore.

I think he's probably more deflated than any of us as to what happened with the Roy-LA-GO plan. He had to live it. I could imagine that kind of experience would make him want to move on as well.

I'd be pretty concerned if any all-star was content with losing their last 13 straight games.

If the Blazers are winning at the start of the season this becomes a non-issue just like Kobes trade demands.

It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Since everyone is on shorter contracts there will be less of those massive terrible deals clogging up teams caps for multiple seasons. But that means there will also be more cap space available every offseason to sign players to terrible contracts!
