Financial details were not immediately available.Earlier Thuesday, it was reported that Royals and Meche were working towards a four-year, $45 million deal.Meche, a six-year veteran, has a career record of 55-44 and a 4.65 earned-run average, all with the Seattle Mariners. Rangers re-sign Vicente PadillaLAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Greg Maddux and the San Diego Padres reached agreement Tuesday night on a $10 million, one-year contract.The deal for the four-time Cy Young Award winner contains a $6 million player option for 2008. The price of the option would increase incrementally up to $10 million if Maddux pitches 200 innings.Maddux, who turns 41 on April 14, is 333-203 with a 3.07 ERA in his career. (AP) - Seattle signed Jose Guillen to a one-year, $5.5 million contract Monday with a mutual option for the 2008 season, giving the Mariners a starting right fielder and reliable bat in the middle of the order.The announcement of the deal was the first formal signing of the four-day baseball winter meetings that began Monday. Guillen missed much of the 2006 season following reconstructive surgery on his right elbow - and his addition is only a start for Seattle, which also is looking to upgrade its starting rotation.The contract allows Guillen to earn up to $3 million in performance bonuses. Mets trade Bannister to Royals for BurgosThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Rick Hummel reports the St. Louis Cardinals signed SP Chris Carpenter to a five-year, $65 million extension through the 2011 season with a club option for 2012. Carpenter had been signed through 2007 as part of an agreement that called for a $7 million salary next year. The Cardinals exercised his 2008 option at $9 million as part of the new agreement and added guaranteed years for 2009, 2010 and 2011 plus a club option for 2012. If the new option is exercised, the deal would be worth about $77 million.
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Mets, seeking to bolster their bullpen with a young power arm, traded for right-hander Ambiorix Burgos from the Royals for a right-hander, Brian Bannister, FOXSports.com has learned.Burgos, 22, was 4-5 with a 5.52 ERA last season for the Royals in 73 1/3 innings. He had greater success as a rookie in 2005, going 3-5 with a 3.98 ERA in 63 1/3 innings.The Mets recently suffered two defections from their bullpen, losing free-agent right-hander Chad Bradford to the Orioles and free-agent right-hander Roberto Hernandez to the Indians. A third reliever, right-hander Duaner Sanchez, is coming off surgery to repair a separated right shoulder.Bannister is the son of former major-league pitcher Floyd Bannister and was considered a candidate for the Mets' 2007 rotation.
