OT Outrage after two white Texas cops are pictured on horseback leading a handcuffed black homeless man

Very poor judgment. That should never have been a trained technique...I wonder how long it has been around. They should have called a squad car to come pick him up and waited.
 
My outrage is look at that guy... He doesn't need rounded up by police he needs help. Shelter, food, probably a psychiatrist (sorry if that sounds insensitive). Yeah, the police shouldn't be leading a guy by rope in 2019 (or ever), but there are scores of people who need help that aren't getting it and that, that sucks...

The mentally ill are mistreated every day by police. I've witnessed it when my mentally ill brother was alive. They need training on recognizing the difference between a confrontation with a problematic person and a mentally ill one and how to deal with the mentally ill.
I really can't comment on this case without knowing more about the incident. It would be like judging a case without hearing the trial. It doesn't look good at first glance.
 
On the one hand, they're on horses so it's not like they have a back seat. BUT, and this is a huge but, why would they have thought "oh hey, you know Bob, instead of calling in backup with a car, let's just have the guy walk with us, while we lead him with a rope".

He's under arrest and being taken to jail. Big fucking deal if he has to walk there. They are mounted police. What's the alternative.

People are such pussies about little things these days.

Not true. Only I can determine what something seems like to me.
I think you mean it doesn't really conflict.
I thought the whole theme of the thread had to do with the way these two police officers led this person off to jail and you say people are pussies about their objections to the arrest and subsequent leading to jail and find the image of it offensive. I'm unclear as to how these two things don't conflict.

Not to the arrest. To the image. The image is possible because he is under arrest for trespassing. Probably nothing too serious, was probably being a public nuisance. Many homeless persons are.

People are freaking out to the imagery. "It looks bad". I don't really care how it looks to be honest. He's being led to jail, the cops have a horse since their are mounted police.

Waiting for a patrol car is a waste of time and resources.

I would say, that is teaching Black kids to count coup on the police.
And it will no doubt get one or more killed in the not too distant future.
 
The problem is a lack of respect from many young people regardless of race. This tells me they are not learning it at home or school.
Are youngsters anymore even taught to respect their elders and/or those in authority?

Why do you think i am "freaking out". One can object to something but not be freaked out.

Didn't say it was. You made a broad statement and i was one who commented that it was not an appropriate way of handling the situation. Even the police chief made a similar comment. Was he freaking out also?

Yes. Just simple damage control for the overly sensitive masses.
 
If you've ever been to New Orleans they herd everyone with a horse regardless of race. The horse patrol is no different than motorcycle or squad car, or foot patrol, they all want to justify their existence by being used.
These guys could have been more sensitive, i guess, but people are also over re-acting to pc & images on the net. There is over sensory reactions going on too.
They would have been escorting a white guy on a horse too, if he was being arrested, just wouldn't have gotten the same reaction on the net.

The fact that people will (and did) "over-react" to this pic is precisely the reason it shouldn't have occurred in the first place. Police departments across the country have the reputation of being racially inequitable at the very least. The ability of a police department to "protect and serve" their communities is largely dependent upon those communities' abilities to trust that the police will treat them fairly and respectfully. It is incumbent upon every person who represents any police department to ensure they do not engage in any behavior that damages that reputation. These officers failed in that responsibility.
