Big fine by the MLS

MLS has fined Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson $25,000 for "inappropriate conduct directed at officials and through use of social media" for his actions during and after Saturday's game against D.C. United.

Paulson, incensed by a questionable handball violation that led to a penalty kick goal, confronted the referees as they walked off the field after the Timbers 1-1 draw.

The referees had barely stepped off the field of play when Paulson confronted the referees and began yelling at them as they walked toward their locker room. While walking, Paulson and the referees were nearly hit by a bottle that was thrown by a fan in the stands.

Timbers spokesman Chris Metz says the team will not have a response.

It was a criminally negligent handball call by the linesman, and I understand why MP is mad, but he needs to channel his passions into improving the product on the pitch and stop embarrassing himself. The Timbers are playing better as of late, and the handball likely cost them 2 points, but whining about the handball this late in a completely lost season, is utterly useless on his part. I expected him to tweet: "If we come in dead last in the standings because of this, there is going to be hell to pay!"
