I've always thought it would be neat to own an old school or church as a house.

here is one I found (just looking, not interested in)

school

They want about 260K for this school (which seems super cheap). Of course, it needs work.

But I think it'd be fun. Imagine having your own gymnasium, or large shop for your cars etc. And you'd never have to worry about needing a bathroom.

And if you had your own auditorium? Talk about movie night!

It'd be fun to do what the mcmenamins do with their renovations.

I was mostly talking about making it a home. I think that'd be much easier (and cheaper).

heating bill would be out of this world. I mean you could do a loft type thing but the rooms are ginormous.

shit that location isn't bad. by the coast. i wonder if you can get it "approved" for residential use though. maybe you can make it a B&B to get around that with one room for rent lol.

...haha, nice "gymnasium"!

Ha, I've always wanted to do the same thing. Would be pretty sweet. Tons of guest rooms. Gym, a pool, weight room maybe. I, of course, never thought of things like heating bill. Always assumed if I had the money to buy a school, I could afford the heat.

heating would be an issue, but realistically, if you can afford to buy a church/school, you probably are well off or at least smart enough to figure out ways to get around it.

But you could just heat the rooms you use (bedroom, kitchen, entertainment) and make rooms smaller. A single classroom could be 2 or even 3 bedrooms potentially.

the gym (if it had one) wouldn't need to be heated, etc.

When we are on vacation in Scotland I took a map and just drove around looking for these castles that were marked on it. A lot were huge renovated ones for tourists...... but I found about 6 or 7 that were private properties that people were living in and "remodeling" their selves. This was one of my favorites!

I think that would be dope! You could have your own movie theatre and gym! I'd come visit if you bought it!

they turned a church in Poulsbo, WA into 4 "townhomes" that were about 250k each (in 2005 or so). I told the realtor I was interested if I got the one with the steeple. Sadly, that one was taken.
