There was an unfortunate thread in the OT forum tonight that was created entirely to cause drama, call someone out, and personally attack another poster.

I was not directly involved in this thread (amazingly), but after speaking to Sly I decided to permanently ban PapaG from our forum. This was a long time coming. He has been warned so many times I've lost count. He has been suspended in the past. He has basically begged to be banned on any number of occasions.

I did not take pleasure in doing this. He has been a longtime member of our community, and he has contributed good discussion about the Blazers and Ducks. The problem is that PapaG is incapable of separating personal attacks and insults from his posting. He will use any kind of information you have posted in the past against you, and attempt to push buttons in a way that is completely unacceptable.

We are trying to keep this a positive environment with people who actually respect each other. This was the straw that broke the camels back.

I just wanted to explain why the decision was made, and I hope you all understand.

Never understood asking to be banned and it having zero comedy value. The BenDavis flame out will live forever. PapaG's will have the same entertainment value as an WNBA game.

Kidding aside, what a weird way to go out.

Some people find unusual places to shake their demons. Like internet message boards.

I'm not condoning verbally attacking people, but this is actually kind of shitty. For all the grief that PapaG has caused some of you throughout the years, he has done some good things for the community too. The guy was a man of his word and gave up some $$$ because he lost a bet so a couple of posters could eat and drink as much as they wanted during a blazer game. I've always appreciated PapaG's blazer talk and looked forward to his responses when it came to hoops.

I'm not saying it was the wrong decision to make, just sucks it had to come to this.

Oh, you don't think he's going to come back around?

He can't just go cold turkey. He's gonna fire up the old BGrantfan moniker and act naive.

well, and I'm being serious here, hopefully he can come back after a while and be a productive poster again. I think we all go through phases where we need a break from the board (or the internet period).

Once cooler heads prevail, he'll probably be welcomed back and be fine.

Of course, this didn't involve me (directly) so I have no real stance on int.

It involved me directly. I would be fine with his return if he stops insulting me as well as other posters. Otherwise, I say good riddance.

I agree with you. It was a very difficult decision to make. One that had been discussed by all of the Blazer staff for quite some time.

It came down to this, we have very few rules here but the biggest rule is no personal insults to other members. You can disagree with a person's opinion or view on something but repeatedly insulting people just can't happen. Personally I understand that someone could be having a bad day and just needs to vent. That's why I'll edit posts. But continuing to insult people time and time again when you know it's wrong... PapaG was asked multiple times publicly and privately to stop. He didn't.

Yep, completely trust in you as a mod sly. Definitely understand, it just sucks it came to this.

He should've taken the Ed O. rout and vanish into the ether rather than this.

the thread title reminds me of the Elton John song, "Someone saved my life tonight"

But instead of those lyrics, it's "someone banned someone banned someone banned papag tonight..."

Of course, if you don't know that song it's really difficult to get the cadence right.

There's a gaping hole in how Mod's edit posts on this forum.

Like St. George, I have splayed the proverbial dragon. Now bow bow down and toss shiny reps at my feet!

Well SPD is a gaping hole!

I kid, I kid, love the white dog.

So tempting to edit my post again. I find it amusing. What a flaw in the system.
