Thought this was funny.

Even with three point guards on the roster - Andre Miller, Steve Blake and Jerryd Bayless - the Trail Blazers thought enough of Patty Mills to make him the 15th man, but the man who spent two seasons at St. Mary's isn't suiting up. The team has enough trouble deciding between Miller and Blake as the starter, and Mills needs a trade in the worst way ...

I want Patty Mills to become a star, so I can nickname him "Patty Melt."

In any case, I sure hope Patty Melt doesn't demand a trade. He's pretty buried and could probably be making much, much more in Australia.

lmao...isnt he still hurt? even his biggest fans don't know that?

As long as he doesn't mess up. It would be a Patty melt down.

Good point. It has backfire capability.

I still think it's perfect for his smothering, delicious game. (I really MUST see him play one day. He sounds awesome from my descriptions.)

Sounds sort of cheesy to me.

Patty would currently be earning what? US$457,588?

The salary cap in the Australian National Basketball League is AU$1,000,000 (US$930,400.26).

So yeah Patty could earn more, but they wouldn't have any money for any other players.

Europe is where he'd be, not Australia.

Regardless, he wants to be in the NBA.

I think that's why he forced the Trail Blazers' hand, "sign me, or release me" essentially; so he could try to sign for another NBA team.

When Mills isn't walking with a limp he can start demanding a trade "in the worst way." Furthermore I fully expect that he'll be getting his wish sooner rather than later, probably no later than June of this year.

Mills isn't demanding a trade at all. He's working hard doing everything he can to get his body right to play.

The only one even mentioning a trade is some writer in San Francisco who doesn’t even seem to know that Patty is injured.

I was making a joke, based on Rudy's latest comments. I realize that he can't make millions in Australia.

What a stupid writer.
having lived in the Bay Area for most of the last 20 years, I don't think Jennings is a dummy, he just hates the Blazers. I don't think I've ever read him relay a positive comment but he'll run any slighting rumor/joke. He grew up in LA and is a Lakers honk

that doesn't matter, dude just wants to throw some rocks... any rocks

But would he be suiting up if he wasn't injured? Probably not.

I think you misunderstood (or I wasn't very clear at any rate) I have zero problem with Mills and I didn't really think Patty is demanding a trade, I just tend to think that he probably needs to be traded when he is healthy -- he's never going to get an inch PT on this team. I just thought it was funny that this SF writer somehow couldn't even seem to get the fact that Patty is currently on the shelf with that hobbled foot of his.

Where's the :whoosh: emoticon? That one went straight over my head. :smiley-embarassed:

D-League I would think.

Sorry. My hackles can be easily raised when it comes to Mills.

You're right, it would be the best thing for him to be traded somewhere he'll get some playing time.

Although that could be here depending on any consolidating trades we make. :fingerscrossed:

I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that Mills will never play on this team. I believe some sort of consolidation trade will be made.... or some players will leave via free agency. I don't see any way that we still have Miller, Blake, Bayless, Roy, Rudy, and Mills on this team next year. That's simply too many guards. As much as I like Bayless, I think our "point guard of the future" spot is still open. If anything, Miller has shown that this team truly needs a pure point guard. Since he entered the starting lineup, Oden has come alive. The offense has flowed smoothly. I don't see that happening with Bayless any time soon.

He's a 2nd round pick. He's lucky to have an NBA contract right now. I say this as someone who likes what Mills can offer.

A dumb article.

I agree with both statements. The nicest thing is that Jerryd seems to be at least productive when he is out on the court (evidenced by his 19 PER) which at least enhances his trade value at worst and at best gives the team a reliable "sparkplug" guy off the bench. However, it doesn't seem like he's exactly setting teammates up, even though he is trying to pass to the open man off of drives. It just seems like things take way too long to develop when he's handling the ball; I think he's still having trouble getting a step ahead of the defense and creating enough confusion to free up his own teammates for easy looks.

Possibly encouraging for the longterm, I did observe a couple of interesting moments tonight when he was on the court with Andre, Miller would be talking to him and trying to help him recognize certain situations from the wing as Jerryd handled the ball and tried to get into his drive or his sets. Maybe with enough mentoring from Miller and some more growth from Jerryd he'll be able to ease into a role of greater responsibility in time. Tough to say at this point.

In any case, I'm not exactly itching to trade Bayless, but if the right deal came along down the line ...

Maybe we can trade Mills to Sacramento where they have a coach who appreciates the beauty of team basketball and will overlook his poor shooting (he hasn't made a shot all season) and lack of defense (he can't seem to stay in front of anyone these days). Yeah, that's it. Trade him to Sacramento where he will thrive in their up tempo system and Paul Westphal will be his Frank Layden.

Ricky Greene kept Stockton from starting for 3 years. Beno Udrih is Sergio's Ricky Greene. Only 3 years till they get rid of Beno to make way for Sergio. This is after Tyreke leaves for a winning team. Get back to me in 3 years.

Who said anything about Sergio? This thread is about Patty Mills.

But since you brought it up. Sacramento will need a new 3rd string PG once Sergio's rookie contract expires. Could be a good destination for Mills. With all the sitting and watching he's doing this season, he'll be well prepared to take over Sergio's role.

It is possilbe that Patty could be our starting PG in two years time.

Bayless will be down the road in my opinion........he cannot handle the rock!

trouble is, Beno is actually finally living up to his full MLE contact; he's playing fairly well off the ball with all of the facilitating that Evans does, hitting over 50% from the floor and 39% from three point range. Who knows what Sergio would do with more minutes, but there's scant evidence he's on the verge of all of a sudden A) going to get on the floor and B) putting it all together. Not to mention, he's unlikely to get anything more than a minimum contract offer from anybody this summer (from the Kings or otherwise) and I suspect he's going to get better offers from an ACB or a Euroleague team.

Anything is possible.

Except that. That's not possible.

Yes, his elite ability to get to the rim and draw fouls is done by mentally propelling the ball along beside him. Mentally strong, weak handle.

You know how the Blazers seem to never have a PG with speed to raise hell with other teams, and always seem to be on the wrong end of the speedy guard treatment? Hopefully Patty Mills will end that. In the Olympics all of the guards on team usa talked about how hard he was to stay in front of. That is why he is here now, and not one of those other vets who we turned down. (That, and he costs a lot less).

If people think Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless are shoot first ballhog PGs, wait til they see Patty Mills play. He took over 15 shots a game in college while averaging 3.9 APG.

Here's his list of weaknesses from Draftexpress:

WEAKNESSES:
- Ability to get to free throw line
- Ability to play at different speeds
- Decision making
- Not a true point guard
- Settles for bad shots
- Shot-selection
- Ability to contest shots
- Defensive fundamentals
- Level of competition
- Assist to turnover ratio
- Ability to finish through contact
- Frail frame
- Undersized
- Low shooting percentages[/quote]

So, he's quick enough to blow by people but doesn't make good decisions and can't make a shot. Mills strikes me as a very poor man's Damon Stoudemire, or a middle class man's Pooh Jeter - a midget shooting guard who is forced to play PG becuase if his tiny size.

I tried to bring this up awhile back when the debate was whether or not the he was going to be TPGOTF (The Point Guard of the Future TM) I watched a few of his games for St. Mary's and the only thing I could think of was "small scoring guard" ... people harp on Bayless for not being a true point, but at least he has some size to play the position on defense, Mills on the other hand ... There's is a reason he slipped to the end of the second round.

And I'm not even trying to say that Jerryd should be a longterm solution, if that's what people think this is about.
