Per Joe Freeman on 1080am. Oden offer is offical too.

Oden had a positive doctor checkup today.

Freeman makes it sound like Patty's deal is non-guaranteed so they could cut him later.

I'm a bit surprised that they extended a Q.O. to Mills.

That makes him a RFA, right?

Can someone fill me in on what a tendered offer is?

Press Release
TRAIL BLAZERS EXTEND QUALIFYING OFFER TO GREG ODEN

Team also extends offer to Patrick Mills, exercises third-year options
on Luke Babbitt and Elliot Williams

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Trail Blazers have extended a qualifying offer to center Greg Oden, it was announced today by the team. Portland has also extended a qualifying offer to guard Patrick Mills and exercised its third-year options on forward Luke Babbitt and guard Elliot Williams.

Both Oden and Mills become restricted free agents, ensuring that the Trail Blazers will have right of first refusal should another team try to sign them. The moves give Portland the right to match any contract offer they receive in the offseason.

"We've stood behind Greg Oden every day since he became a Trail Blazer and that continues with today's announcement," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller . "Despite the setbacks he's experienced, he continues to be resilient in working tirelessly on his rehabilitation. We're all very encouraged with not only his progress, but with his commitment and determination to return to the basketball court."

Oden, 23, is averaging 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.43 blocked shots to go with a 57.7% (290-for-503) mark from the floor in four seasons with the Trail Blazers.

Mills, 22, has appeared in 74 games over two seasons in Portland, averaging 5.1 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

A rookie last season, Babbitt, 22, notched averages of 1.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 5.7 minutes in 24 games. Acquired by Portland in a draft day trade on June 24, 2010, he also averaged 20.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in 14 games with the NBA D-League's Idaho Stampede.

Williams, 22, missed his rookie 2010-11 season due to surgeries on both knees. Portland selected him with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft out of Memphis.

Remind me what this means. Does he have to accept? What's next?

I don't really see why we extended the QO to Patty. With the pick of Nolan Smith its obvious he isn't in the long term plans so i'm assuming it because of how great a locker room guy he is and the fact he one of PA favorite Blazers.

Means he can accept it and play with us for 1 year and become an UFA next year or he can shop around and it gives us the rights to match any offer someone gives him.

Man, I'm torn. I don't want to overpay him, but I'll be damn if he goes elsewhere and blows the fuck up!

Armon Johnson's not on the list. Is he on a longer deal than Babbitt and Elliot?

2nd rounder.

Mills was a 2nd-rounder, so was Matthews.

Johnson signed a 2-year contract, like Mills did when he was drafted. The Jazz only signed Matthews to a one-year deal.

Round drafted had nothing to do with it.

Mathews wasn't drafted he made it into the Jazz lineup threw a training camp invite.

You're right, but it doesn't matter in terms of this discussion. The Jazz only signed him to a one-year deal. Had they signed him to a two-year deal, they wouldn't have lost him last season.

But is his 2nd year guaranteed?

Yes I believe Armon's second year is guaranteed, then he becomes a RFA. Since Babbit and Williams were 1st round picks we had to pick up their 3rd year options for the 2012-13 season or they would be UFA next summer.

Is it a bad sign that my first thought was, "What did he test positive for?"

Haha! Yeah i just sorta posted that asap to get the news out, I could have picked my words more eloquently lol.

if armon blows up this year im glad we have his early bird rights! thank you gilbert arenas provision!

:sigh:

Who is Elliot?

That Williams dude on the Blazers wheelchair basketball team. With him, Greg, Roy, Camby and Pendy last year they had a surprisingly successful season.

I thought you could only give undrafted players a 1 year deal, and then since you can't extend 1 year deals you would have to wait to sign them long term in FA. I'm not very clear on how that works.

I'm guessing they will try to trade either Armon or Patty at some point; Patty is considered an asset that they didn't want to give up for nothing.

Those towels aren't going to wave themselves, you know.

What are the chances PA buys out Johnson's contract?

Not too good. They'd just waive him and eat it. Johnson has little/no incentive to agree to a buyout if his money is guaranteed.
