Meh, Houston selected Joey Dorsey as their rep, he was with the D-League a lot, and is a complete idiot. I dunno how much respect it means. Probably more of the vets not wanting to deal with it.

A) How do you know Dorsey is an idiot? I'm curious.

B) Juwan specifically said that he thinks Jeff will become president of the union. To me, that says that Juwan has a lot of respect for Jeff.

In a college writing class, he wrote a paper titled, "The NCAA Exploits Athletes," in which he argued that collegiate athletes should receive more than a minimal living stipend and free education. When he recalls the paper, and his stance on the issue, he grows animated and talks faster and louder.

"The NCAA makes so much money and they want to say they have to protect the integrity and the purity of the game and everybody's amateur status and blah, blah, blah," he said. "Whatever, man. That's (bull) to me, because the NCAA makes so much money off athletes. I think it's total madness."

Uh okay, Jeff.

Gee, that's original. Never heard that one before. May be true, but young Pendy's tired treatise doesn't make him Thomas Paine or Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Besides numerous other mentions of his stupidity I have seen through the years, his self proclaimed Goliath to Oden's David in college was enough for me to know the guy's just a little dumb. I also don't hold Memphis basketball in the highest of academic regards. But if you saw him get one A on a test in college, I'm sure you'd be prepared to nominate him as valedictorian.

I doubt it. My boss has known Jeff since he was 12. He has talked him up for the last 6 years. Everything I have seen so far has pretty much supported his high phrase. He may not be a great player, but everyone seems to think he is a great person.

Brutal. It was a writing class, not his Master's Thesis. Cut the kid a little slack. It's a puff piece, after all.

So do you guys think Pendergraph is a card carrying communist? Or do you think he has a poster of Ronny Reagan on his wall?

He probably was 'elected' as the stars are too busy counting their money and living the bling life. If I had $12,000,000.00 per year (or so) against $800,000.00 I'd be out yachting and not thinking my job is to bash the owners too.

Kinda' like Denny Crane and us.

I think that Pendergraph should worry about staying in the league, rather than aspiring to higher office. :)

The NCAA definitely exploits the athletes. But, the proposed cuts in the CBA seem very logical to me. No way NBA players deserve that much money.

No doubt. I kind of wonder if it's really in a second round pick's self interest to be known among owners as a "rabble rouser." I mean, if you are a GM looking at adding on a 15th player, do you go for the one who also is so open about confronting ownership?

Anyway, I wish him luck. I like the guy's attitude on the court, and for where we drafted him and how we use him, I don't have a problem with him.

its true...they need to pay college athletes

Why? There are thousands of players who will gladly play for free/college education. Will the players be as good? Probably not. But the "product" of the NCAA games will still be very valuable. Loyalties to Kentucky or UNC or Syracuse aren't going to go away simply because the very best players might go to a minor league or overseas.

I think they should change the rules a bit, but at the same time if you're getting a free education out of the deal (whether or not you take advantage of it), quit bitching.

The players that are not on scholarship should be the ones who get more assistance than those who are getting free educations.
